2 wire routers and Apex don't mix.

In advance I am going to apologize, sorry if this is long but so was this process. So if you hate reading and don't have or want an apex or have AT&T you don't want to read this thread at all.

I tried to configure my Apex back in April 2010 when it was purchased. Got it to do all the functions after a few tries, (5 hours). So lights MH, chiller, return pump, mp40, and a heater all hooked up to the apex and working, right?

FF to the night time, 2 days later after I had supposedly linked my apex to my computer, my MH's that were suppose to be on from 4-8pm were now on at 2am.

So I turn them off manually, no biggie. Call apex and we reconfigure the outlets and everything is up except the 6 hours I spent working on the router linked to the apex went to the toilet.

I gave up on tinkering with the apex out of frustration for 8 months on this feature, so I had a 500$ controller working like a 50$ one, lame.

So recently, I was like I am really dumb, or why not hook this thing up? I pm'd a friend which I met here on Rc and asked him questions on how to get this apex linked to my router and eventually linked wirelessly to a gaming router.

So as nice as he is (not mentioned so he won't get bombarded with pm's) he proceeds to help me for 7 hours via phone and we get it to work typing in an ip address. Not wirelessly that is a whole other ball of yarn.

Next day it's down again. He mind you works on networks and other stuff I am not going to go into detail because I will have to drink a beer after because it's too complicated.

He says my router is bogus and that I need to get a new one, this after I take everything eb8, all of the apex things and the new gaming router its a trends net cost like 24$, to his house and he checks and troubleshoots all of my equipment except the 2 wire router nightmare sitting in its comfy room (pos)!

He comes over on Saturday and works on my system for like 4 hours and says it's the router for sure.

So I order a modem only from AT&T and we hook it up to the lynksis router and he remotely gets it to work, almost.

After a few configuration changes in the router and on the gaming router, we get it to work.

I have a static ip now going into the dyndns sight, free. and the signal on my new lynksis router was increased remotely by my buddy, the guy knows his stuff.

What it took to get my apex was 19 hours of my time, 14 hours of my buddies time tinkering and bs'ng to find out the 2 wire router from At&t is not something compatible with our apex's. If my buddy would of had another router from the get go it would have taken him literally 1 hour start to finish to get it up.

One of the other encounters I had was with the trends net people and the software configurations and my pc settings, you have to call them and get a supervisor because it gets hairy. Once the supervisor was on after 3 1.5 hour phone calls with regular technicians the sup. Got it to work.

Why did I write this long meaningless thread? Because if you have an apex and a 2 wire router that is giving you issues, I am saving you 20 hours or less of headaches. Get yourself a modem only and a bad *** router and drop kick the 2 wire router this very moment. 2wire Model 2701HG-B is not compatible with our apex systems. I am saving this router to make it Swiss cheese when I go hunting.

So in closing 8 months 40 hours of pulling my hair worth being linked to my reef tank? Heck ya. I haven't left the house in 8 months ahhhhhh the air is nice, the sun feels good.

Gotta check the tank with my aqua notes I've been away for 19 minutes!
