Which is better on a 4 foot mixed tank. In terms of spread and coverage?

3 XR 15 units spaced evenly
or
2 XR30 units placed to cover a 24 inch area.

I will be using the RMS mounts if that makes a difference.

hey what about a 48" X 30" X 21"??

Oseymour,
Can you provide feedback on your lights? Thanks

Here is my 2 day opinion when moving from a Kessil AP700 and two A160s at the edge to 2 Radion XR30 G4 Pros.

  • Nothing beats the Kessil shimmer, hands down
  • Because the Kessil lights are closely packed they are blended together perfectly - The color separation is not bad on the Radion but coming from Kessils its noticeable. In a month or two I probably won't notice.
  • Kessil spectrum is set it and forget it. You just choose the color you want to see and Kessil logic ensures that the corals gets the spectrum they need. (this could be a plus or minus - It was great when I was a new reefer but now that I have 4 years under my belt I want to try more control)
  • Kessil doesn't do moonlight - I had to rig up a moonlight feature - Love the Radion for that
  • Ecosmart Live makes it easy the program the radions. After a year the Kessil app still needs work, it's better for a $900 light I need an app that matches the price.
  • I live the Radion RMS mounts better than the Kessil mounting arm.
  • Coverage? I don't know. I guess about the same.

It terms of growth, too early to say and there are so many factors in play here. I've seen awesome tanks with cheap no name LEDs that let me wonder what the heck am I spending my money for.
