Just wanted to show u guys an option for a super cheap auto top off for limited space nanos. I didnt trust float switchs and didnt want to deal with solinoids and wanted somthing cheap and reliable. Float vavle 6 bucks, great no leaks, valve is extremely sensative and adjustable. The most expensive parts were the home depot quarter inch vavles, 9 bux and 3 for the bulkhead. Just dont over fill the tank incase the vavle gets stuck for any reason.

the float valve is just as able to break down as a float switch. Typically the switch will sieze in the closed state though which would not top off. Not any more of a concern per say then you unit.

That said the ato shown here has been used in many applications and is what red sea uses on their new sump design in the reefer series.

Personally for me I wouldnt want the 5 gallon container I use to be above my tank. Even a smaller container on the hood would be a PITA...

I kno this which is why im not gunna put more water then my tank can handle. And im obv gunna hang it out of sight

If you are only going to fill as much as the tank would handle for evap then why bother? Just dump water in daily.

I meant put a gallon of water in which last me 4 days however my tank can handle an extra gallon if somthing goes wrong. I just want to be able to go to work and gym wihout salinity fluctuation and skimmer malfunction
Plus i am adding kalkwasser into the top off. Hope that answers all questions. I am not looking to offend or battle wits, sorry i posted here.
