20 Long Consolation Prize

Setup a 20 Long in my office since my 6' tank was too heavy (upstairs). Rhett, why the heck didn't you refuse to help me put it upstairs when you delivered it
Moving the beast downstairs hasn't happend yet, but still wanted a slice of ocean to be in my office. Currently showing with one of the halides from the 72" fixture that I hung for the 6' tank and haven't taken down yet as I am waiting for delivery of the 250w MH lb setup next week that I traded for with asmodeus. Has an oveflow from txholeyrocks.com (yes that's black duct tape on the u-tube since it was clear), 10g sump, 1.026, and an mp10 I snagged from reef-ski.

Headed to AC later on to ogle and grab a few hermits to start cleaning.

Ok, so now the tank is running on 2x24 -t5's. I also put in a Bubble Magus NAC3+ skimmer that's breaking in. Sold the 72" light so I had some cash for the T-5 and the first inhabitants. Got a ricordia frag, one jumped off the rock on the way home, so I glue it on a separate rock, a zoa frag, gsp, and clownfish.

Tried this shot of the re-glued ricordia under actinic, but my camera's about 6yrs old

I love the rics. Does your clown need a buddy? I have a breeder female misbar ocellaris that is by herself now. Make a long story short I had 5 clowns and they turned it into 3.

sure. tell you what, if you could send it along with the order next wednesday with mapn4reef (not sure of his actual name :) ), I can pick it up then.
How much for it?

Mapn4reef is John. I can send her with him. I will shoot you a pick when I get home. I paid $100 for the pair when they were laying eggs every 14 days or so. $20 sound good to you? PM me your cell number and I will shoot you a pic.

Here's a sump shot .

and a FTS, Smokey (what else would a UT fan name an orange fish) even came around for a profile..

Looks great, future stocking plans? how long did your cycle take?

probably just keep to the soft corals for now as I don't want to have to dose calcium or kalk, not to mention the 2x24 isn't ideal for much more. One, maybe two more small fish and that's it.

Or kiffer if he jumps out. Lol bad joke.
Anyways it's not good to glue softies

Yeah, he even thinks he can stiff the state's NFL team and get away with it. I've never had success in the past with ric's attaching to the rock on their own, and it's just a dot of glue. Hopefully it doesn't know that I'm not supposed to do that.

So, I got curious. My office has a skylight that I'd put black posterboard up to keep put the sunlight, but then I got to thinking, isn't direct sunlight what MHs are trying to mimic. So I uncovered and tried it out. I think it would only give direct light about 1 hr or so a day, so I'm not sure. Thoughts?

Yes, you can use Natural sunlight. I just unsubscribed from a thread last week that was using solar tubes to light the tank with supplemental T5's. The thread was called "Gone Solar". Try and search for it and see the progress he made with it. It is a pretty interesting thread.

Watch out the sun light and burn your coral. Most corals in the wild are 30' deep or more. I also have a frag tank that's run off of sunlight. But now the sun is high and don't get direct sun. JMO

tis interesting, and their money seems to flow into those setups like water. Can't imagine.

I'm going to try to see exactly how long I get sunlight. The skylight faces northwest, so I don't see any of it until after 12pm and seemed to be gone before 2, but I wasn't completely paying attention.

Sure made the clown hyper, he usually stays on the right side, so as not to fight the current, but he was zooming up and down the front of the tank in the sunlight.

Oh and I think the ricordia that stayed on the rock is in the process of splitting. It's folding bigtime in the middle. Or maybe it's just an origami ricordia :D

Fuzzy photo via phone, wife has camera as it's the first day of school.

The Ric could have been reaching for the sun light or moving away from it? Don't know when you took the pic, but my rics would fold like that when I changed the currents and they wanted to move.

Smart man. 1 hr later it looked like this. No split coming, but still looking nice. I deleted the crappy phone picture so it probably won't show in the previous posts. Here's the camera shot:
