20 Long Reef Build

I love it! very clean and inventive way to hide the equipement. the aquascaping looks awesome too......SPS tank?

I am currently thinking zoa garden on top/surrounding the cave on the left with a leather on top of the cave. Then I am thinking lps and sps on the right side. So many options that I am considering right now lol.

Sorry, I meant how did you make those chambers to let the water basically get top skimmed into your aq110 and skimmer

Update time. Cycle is moving along quickly especially since it has only been four days. Params tonight are as follows:

Temp:79
Specific Gravity: 1.025
PH: 8
Alk: 8
Ammonia: 2
Nitrite: 5
Nitrate: 5
Phosphate: 0
Calcium: 400

Will update tomorrow with my stocking plans, for review from the pro's here to make sure I am not making any rookie mistakes with what I am mixing.

Here are the tank params for tonight:

Temp:79
Specific Gravity: 1.025
Ph: 7.8 (is this low?)
Alk: 8
Ammonia: 0 (dosed back up to 4ppm)
Nitrite: 10
Nitrate: 10
Phosphate: 0
Calcium: 440

Dose the Ph seem a little to low to anone else?
I have also been thinking of stocking here in the last few days and here is what I am thinking right now:

1-Maroon Clownfish
1-Firefish
1-Yellow Clown Goby
1-Six Line Wrasse (maybe)

Still working on inverts and coral selection.

So what do I have growing on my live rock, pretty sure the last pics are a bunch of Aiptasia.

Idk...what's the first pic of? Anyway the third pic could be aiptasia but it also looks kinda like those no light loving sun coral/dendro looking things. I got a few, some are orange and some are black.

Anyway a fishneedit fixture is gotta be great on a 20l. I got one on my 29g and want one for my 20l that I want to put clowns and gtba/rbta in. They may not have great reflectors but on a shallow tank like that who cares? Throw in some ATI bulbs when those wear out and you are golden!

I think ph drops like that all of a sudden when you're cycling the tank.

Yeah I love the fixture so far. The only problem I had with it was they did not ship any screws for the mounting legs. I sent an email and they arrived 2 days later. I am already planning to upgraded the bulbs to the ATI's :fun2:

I think you are right about the PH seems that it has gone down a hair more last night when I tested everything again. So ready for this cycle to be done.

Originally the plan was to just use base rock in the tank and get the tank cycled. This way I would not have of the typical reef pest. But I was talked into getting some live rock to seed it with. Full of life...all bad so far.

Here is the updates for tonight. Hopefully I will be ready for my first fish and coral on Tuesday when I am off.

Temp: 79
Salinity: 1.025
Ph: 7.8
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 1
Nitrate: 160
Alk: 8
Phos: 0
Calcium: 440

I think sumps are a good way to go. I was in a situation where due to lack of space, and not wanted to spend the extra time and money on the sump I had to come up with a different way to keep things clean looking. So I came up with this...

In the last pic you can see I had enough room for my skimmer and Tunze ATO setup. The other side has my AC70 fuge mod, and heater tucked inside.

It's not perfect, but it was a super simple (and cheap) way to keep things hidden, and clean looking.

--- any issues with using that piece of gutter?

So after an extended leave it's time for an update. Tank has finally cycled. Going to do a very large water change tomorrow to bring the nitrates down. Then this weekend going to go get my first corals. If I keep only corals in my tank for the first few months. No crabs, shrimp, fish....just corals. Would it be ok to do water change every two weeks instead of one?
