20 Long Tank Pics

Well,

I've been on here a while and I finally got around to taking some pics of my tank. It's small, but I've spent a lot of time on it. I started with a 12 Gallon and just moved everything over to this one about 2 months ago.

--Specs--
20 Gallon Long AGA
10 Gallon home made sump (Love my silicon work!)
150W Corallife MH 14000K
2 X 18W Actinic
Mag 2 Return Pump
Mag 7 Closed Loop
CSS 65 Skimmer
Auto Top Off from autotopoff.com (2 gallon res.)
AquaController Jr.

--Inhabitants--
2 Amphiprion Ocellaris
1 RBTA
1 Yellow Clown Goby
1 Coco Worm (The flash of my first picture scared him)
1 Crocea Clam
1 Derasa Clam
1 Cleaner Shrimp
Various Hermits and Snails
Various Corals (Zoos, Kenya Tree, Yellow Polyps, GSP, Frogspawn and an Acropora I won at the last raffle)

Full Tank Shot

A Kenya Tree (thanks blueshape) and some zoos. The rock on the right used to be covered with orange zoos, but they melted away after I transferred from my original 12 gallon. There's a Coco worm there, but the flash of my first pic scared him. I'll try to get a shot later.

Nice pics! I really like the cleaner shrimp hanging like a xmas ornament in the center.

It seems like your big clam is really stretching up like it is reaching for more light. Does it usually look like that? How's the BTA in the corner, he seems like he is in shadow. Has it moved much?

Do you like your "cookies and cream" sand bed? (that is what it makes me think of) If you had to do it over, would you go all black or all white?

aztbs,

I've had the Crocea for a little over a year and he always seems to stretch. I worry about it all the time. It is under 150W MH, and the depth is not deep at all. I'm about a month away from needing a new bulb, though.

The RBTA was put in about 3 weeks ago, he hid for a while under the overflow, but he's coming out good now when the lights are on. He was eating a piece of silverside when I took the shot. I'd like for him to get back on the rocks, but if he's happy, I'm happy.

I will reserve judgement on the sand until it's a little more established. Who knows how it will look when it's a little more "dirty".

Thomas,

Thanks for the compliment. You wouldn't call it clean if you looked under the stand where the sump is. It's hard to squeeze all that stuff in under a 20 Gallon stand.

I have a 20L that I want to do the same thing with. Where did you get your lights from? Do you get pretty good coverage with the actinics on the sides?

don't take this the wrong way (cuz he looks very happy, but)....but your clam is so full and out it looks like a still photograph of a clam vomiting itself toward Mr. Sun!

They're Odyssey which everyone will tell you are pretty bad (including me). However, they are the only ones I can find to fit perpendicular on the tank and come with legs. I use them more as a sunrise, sunset thing. You can get them at aquatraders.com. Be carefull though, you don't have much recourse when they break, but they're pretty cheap anyways.

Nice thinking with the Odysseas! I am looking at a similar setup and was worried about the edges of the tank. Now, I have an additional option.

Nice zoos, too.

I've delt with an Odyssea fixture for about 8 months now I would advise you to NOT use there lamps and also watch for balast failure.

Awesome. It's fun to see all of your hard work pay off. What does you temperature stay at?

With the fan I kept the temperature between 80.2 and 80.7 using my Aquacontroller Jr. with LOTS of evaporation.

Since taking these pictures I have upgraded to the JBJ Nano Chiller and now keep the temp between 79.2 and 79.7.
