2000 Gallon Reef Pool

The project is working out very nicely!
Welles, can you tell us a little bit about the holding tank? You mention that there is another tank that many of the fish have been living for years...does the owner have a more traditional indoor aquarium?

So did you make this tank for a tank? Meaning: I have a hard time envisioning this as a swimming pool...It seems odd with that big of a window for people to watch you swim.

Great looking setup. I really like it. Is the climate in China good enough that you could have this reef all year without worrying about weather to cause any issues or stress?

I also wanted to know how you insert corals and how they are attached to the rockwork. Nice Job!
Cheers

I'd still love to see some pics of the equipment room. Any updates?

Very impressive project. I love it! Very jealous!

I would love to check it out in person, going back to beijing this sept. Also... where do you guys buy your live rock in China and for how much? I get 100lbs so if I could buy it for super cheap and bring it back (not sure about customs...) that would be great.

Amazing tank, truely a work of art. Can I ask you did you fill the tank will fresh water and then put salt in? Or did you fill it with fresh water to test the leak and drain it completely then add real sea water in?

If you use salt, what kind of salt?

if you use salt, did u filter your tap water/well water with R/O or just straight tap? I cant imagine if you RO-ed water that much...it would take tens probably hundreds of canisters.

I am working on a 200 gallon project in Jakarta, Indonesia at the moment and most of the marine aquarists I know use real sea water as we don't have commercial marine salt available.
So i am using 1/4 real sea water and 3/4 tap water (filtered with carbon before it went to the tank) with added pure sea salt to match 34 alkalinity.

Can you please tell us if you dont mind a little bit more specific about how did you start this tank? In particular I wanna know about how did you start the sea water as I remember you mention something like "salted" so I was actually guessing you are using fresh water from your tap or well and add salts.

Thanks in advance

I think LR is on the CITES so if it is there's no way you could bring some back
