2000 Gallon Reef Pool

Deserves a bump.

If you think of these kinds of tanks as pools, you can appreciate how they can be done with less cost in latitudes with sufficient sun. If you have (or could have) a regular pool on your property, then a reef pool is just an extension of this. Yes the coral would cost, but you could go with fast-multiplying softies instead, or to start with.

I love top-down viewing; seems like you are really walking on the beach. So even with no side-viewing windows, a reef pool could be very realistic if shallow, especially if big enough to get in. And ready-made side-viewing fiberglass ones are also already available starting at about $10,000 delivered (such as the half-circle one at www.aquaculturetanks.com ).

You could cover it in rainy weather or just use the rain as top-off, and if you had a big enough fuge you would not need any waterchanges; just initial salt to start with.

The word "pool" is more likely coming from using an on-line dictionary/translator. You have to be really careful and pay attention to what words you use and how you say things when talking to people in other countries who may speak little or no English. Using slang words like "tank" instead of "aquarium" usually result in words like "pool" or "basin" being returned by the software.

Similarly, I notice an almost complete lack of understanding or willingness to use correct grammar and spelling on the forums by many members. Use a spell-checker. I imagine many statements made here will turn out as total gibberish by translator software in other countries.

Use simple, correct words and avoid cultural idioms that do not translate when speaking with people in non-English speaking countries to gain the best degree of communication.

The video of the pool:

(Please chose 720P)

This video clip was taken in July 2012 on a sunny day, it is very beautiful when look from the surface on bright sunny days, and I think this feel is big difference between the normal aquarium and the pool, it looks like a real coral reef.

The bad news is this pool has been closed last year because the owner has move to other city and the good news is he is planning a bigger reef pool project based on the experience from this one, it will take longer time to prepare but I think it will be there in someday :-)

Too bad he moved, it'd be interesting to see the long term effects on the corals. i.e. will they hold their color? how much would they grow? were these just frags that grew out into that or were they colonies he bought that basically looked like that.

Oh well hope to see the new one.

Thank you for remembering us and bringing us up to date on this remarkable aquarium. If you will be building the new aquarium I hope you will tell us about it like you did with this one.
