Aaronovky - I've been so busy with work and everything else I hate to say it hasn't left a lot of time for finishing up some of the loose ends with the tank. I am hoping to build my refugium this weekend so pics will follow.

OK, thank you.
I went to lowes & tried the regular commercial 2x4 tiles ..what a nightmare. first off witht he 2x4 tiles you really notice when the grid is just a little bit off and not perfectly square. And fitting them in, urg.
i think i'll go with some fiber tiles?

wizsmaster - I found the thread I post a while back when I was deciding on what to do with the ceiling. Here it is Ceiling
There are links to the ClimaPlus 2x2 tiles. I picked them up from Lowes. They are very rigid and so far have been holding up quite nicely. You could special order the Radar tile which is actually designed for damp wet areas like in a public pool area.
camdiddy - thanks, this build is a result of lurking on these forums for years. Soon as I can find some time I'll post some pics. I haven't even moved anything around in the tanks since I cutover.

Thanks for the link, and info on the tiles. My local lowes doesn't carry it .. they only carry armstrong.
Did you have much of an issue hanging the grid at all? We did it last night, it was late, and hot/humid in the room. South West Florida, 500 gal of water, inside the garage ... not alot of fun! And then trying to work around all of the equipment in there. To say the least, the grid ended up not square ... we found out today. Maybe I'll pull it down & redo it tomorrow ... the local lowes has the grid hardware on clearance ... seems like they are discontinuing it. The tiles are 3 time more expensive than what the grid cost.

Sorry for the confusion, I was just wondering if you could get some pictures of the guts of what you have going. Sort of make a portfolio of pictures. Ie lighting to filtration.... everyone likes pictures!!

Haven't updated the thread in a while, after all it's summer time spending all of it outdoors in the pool, playing baseball and racing RC cars with my son.
Tank is coming along great. I will post some pics soon. Still haven't got the refugium going which is causing me to have a hair algae outbreak. It's slowly subsiding and only seems to be at the back of the tank.
The Bubble King skimmer has been working incredibly well. I highly recommend getting one.

The bannerfish have settled in very nicely. I put a school of 5 in together so they actually were able to stick up for themselves quite well. The clowns and flame angelfish chased them around a couple of days but all is peacefull now.
Make sure if you get bannerfish you get the schooling breed Heniochus diphreutes and not Heniochus acuminatus which will eat your corals.
Good luck with your build, believe me it never ends (which is actually the fun part about it)

Need some advice on selecting a light fixture for the frag tank.
The tank is 48"x18"x8". Since it is only 8" deep I thought I would be able to use a 2 bulb T5 54w fixture. Do you think that will be enough light for sps? What bulb combos would you suggest.

Great tank!
Two bulbs will be fine for the depth, but 18" width might pose a problem for a 2 bulb set up for coverage. I'd go with a 4 bulb set up.
Not sure on bulbs, but since it's just a frag tank, I'd go with something to give growth.

I know I've been bad on updating this thread, but no time like the present.
I had to sell the bannerfish since one had jumped out of the tank and died. The smallest one's fins were constantly torn from the other fish so I decided to sell them before they all got beaten up. I guess my establsihed fish in the tank didn't take to the strangers as well as I thought. In any event the 4 of them are in better home.
I went with a 48" current USA T5 fixture for the frag tank. After having to replace the first fixture because the sockets didn't make contact with the bulb properly. The replacement has worked well and the few frags I have are doing great. I can't imagine not having a frag tank.
Over the holidays i hope to have the refugium going and possibly the ca reactor (dosing a ton right now). More pics to come.
