20G overflow or drill?

I have a 10g now and I heard 10g not recommended to drill because of thickness. Would a 20g be a better option? or a 29g better for saltwater? Trying to decide.

A drilled tank will always be potentially "safer" than one with a HOB overflow..

Not all 10G or 20G or 29G tanks are made the same..
Some are tempered glass.. some are not..
If tempered you can't drill.. If not you can.. Size doesn't matter..
One can have a drilled 10G tank if they wanted..

Neither is necessarily better than the other.. Its up to your specific wants/needs..

I think he is referring to a 10g worth the 1/8 thick glass. If so i would avoid drilling it. The hole itself is not the problem as much as what's connected and our hanging from it, a slight bump even will likely crack the glass...

Rather than asking via tank size because like mentioned above not all are equal amongst the same size, i would focus on glass thickness itself. Personally 1/4 is my minimum for the reasons noted above. If simply a hole or some minimal application I may consider 3/16...

Why? A sump has huge benifits to a tank regarless of the tank size. I run a RSR Nano 21gal with sump, would not run a tank without a sump.

Because the time/effort/ cost of water changes, dosing, and maintenance is so little in that small of a tank. A 50% water change would cost you $1 in a 10gal tank, for example.

There really isn't much room for a skimmer, reactors, fuge, etc anyway.

I agree that extra water volume is generally good, but the juice isn't worth the squeeze on such a small tank, in my opinion.

To each there own, I have a Deltec skimmer and Algae scrubber as well as heater and Apex probes in my sump couldn't run most of that without one. It's 100% worth it IMO.
