danielmar, you use 400w bulbs. that is a huge differnce in lumens/par compared to a dinky 150w bulb. compare the par value on a 150w 20k and a 400w 20k.
I got the Phoenix 14k now,& everything in my tank is burning up.I moved the light up from 8" to 12",cut the light cycle in half.12hrs to 5 hrs,& 2 layers of screen. Now i have moved everything to the bottom ,& can only hope everything lives.
well, i have alot more soft corals in my tank than just one clam.. so im tryin to make everything happy and healthy instead of just having one happy, and rest of them burnin
IKU, do you have the clams already? How big are they? If they are under 2 1/2 to 3 inches they will need to be fed DT's anyway and the color temp of your bulb is not really as important. It will get you by for 6-10 months and you can get a better suited bulb.
give the tank some time to acclimate to the new light. this will take a long time. it may take a good month or two. moving the light up will help. you will notice that the coralline algae will be first to go. it will come back. usually a different color though. i am learning that a reef tank is more of a lesson in patience. nothing changes quickly. corals take a long time to adjust to changes in light, salt, & chemicals.
