210 stocking ????

OK I'm starting a swim tank and have some ? about stocking it. It's a 7 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot tank. here's a list of fish I would like to put in it tell me if it will work..

1.Imperator Angel
2. blue face Angle
3.clown trigger
4.Comet betta
5.huma huma trigger
6.maybe a sohal tang???

a few comments:

I think the marine betta may be too slow a feeder to compete with some of the fast aggressives you have listed.

The combination of the blue face and imperator may be too much for the tank - maybe pick one angel? Both of those get pretty large.

Get some feedback from others with Sohal tangs, aggression may be an issue (and they gt pretty big too). I'd consider a different tang...

Can the racoon butterfly run with that crowd?

Great size tank first of all. I also have a 7x2x2 210g and this is what I have

2 Bird wrasses 4-6"
1 Christmas Wrasse 6"
1 GSM clown 4"
1 Foxface 6"
1 Blue Hippo tang 6"
1 Sailfin tang 4-5"
1 Niger Trigger 4"
1 Picasso Trigger 2"
1 Snowflake eel 15" or so

And I will be adding a Angel and Harlequin tusk to finish. I have hardly any aggression, because I stuck with species that are mildly aggressive.

The problem I see with your stocking list is that a couple of those fish are known for being very aggressive when mature. the Clown Trigger and Sohal tang especially. As mentioned its best to go with one angel. From there you can easily add a few more fish without problems.

Clown tangs can be nasty to, but you may ge lucky and get a easy going fish. I personally also like the Vlamingi Tang aka Unicorn tang.

i wouldn't put a vlamingi in a 210, here is what i recommend from your list

Blueface angel (can be a bully but shy... not really a open swimmer)
Picasso trigger (can get aggressive)
add a wrasse (red coris, Harliquen tusk are my favs)
add a tang (i like powder blue)
maybe a Golden puffer?

That would make a really colorful display

if you want a real open swimming angel, try a Queen.. also i'd stay away from the emperor's. They need reef quality water and lots of verity in there diet.

IME, a healthy, well-adapted emperor can do really well if water quality is reasonable.

I like all the suggestions emperior911 made, except I might go for a tang with a better long term survival rate. I like mimics (chocolate) tangs, and have had really good luck with this fish.

well I really don't like wrasse's so thats out and I really don't want to pay 300 plus for a puffer. I do want a emperior and a clown trigger I won't change my mind on them. and really don't want any tangs in the tank unless they are a clown or a sohal. it is a 7 foot tank so my choice can go alittle more then a reg. 210 6 foot tank. I plan on keeping my FOWLR tank as good water as my reef tank. (I'm a freak about water changes)lol

1. Blueface angel
2. emperor
3. clown trigger
4. some kind of puffer (maybe a stars and strips)
5. Picasso trigger
6. somekind of eel (maybe a Chain Eel)

I just don't want another reef looking tank as some of the fish said above are reef safe fish.

okey dokey - I like these threads - those that start out "reasonable" :)

Comments:
Blueface Angel & Emporer angel
I recently tried this combo in my 8x2x2 tank. Introduced same time, blue face slightly larger in adult colours, emporer in juv. colours - whilst they did not "fight" as such, it was abundantly clear that the emporer was boss, and teh blue face rarely came out..... I got rid of the blue face, it wasn't fair on the animal. My advice, from my experience - don't do it. Although there are a couple of guys here that have done and are doing it, with much better results. Its a 50-50 really, and I personally wouldn't do it - not if you intend keeping these fish for a long time.

Cown Trigger - are you aware of the "might go mental at any moment" nature of this fish. You could have him for years, then one day ho could flip and kill everything....... as long as you are aware of that "risk", then I would add no further comment.

Puffers - no great amount of experience with puffers - I'd add him before the other big boys, apart from that he seems well suited to your mix - in my limited expereince anyway.

Picasso - nice fish, had one for a few eyars - shouldn't give you any trouble.

Eel - my personal view on eels is that they are big, clumsey brutes that will make aquascaping diffiult, and will break your heart having to target feed it in a tank with fish that are known gluttons - I would personally look at substituting a nice wrasse species in here........ what happend your racoon butterfly??? They are good, big, robust fish......

All in, I'd say its a good list, although I would personally avoid keeping multiple angels. I have tried it twice in the past - an emporer/queen combo and an emporer / blue face combo...... they "got along" but in my view Angels should be one to a tank if you want to show them for what they truly are..... otherwise there is a constant (all be it silent) battle going on, which belies true nature of these fish....... in my expereince.

Here's a pic of mine - he's grown from a little under 4" to about 6" in 6 months...... my price and joy

I will conclude the "fish selection" comments with what I would put in your tank (based on your list)
1. emperor
2. clown trigger
3. some kind of puffer (maybe a stars and strips)
4. Picasso trigger
5. Substitute a nice wriasse (Lunare / tuskfish) for eel
6. Substitute a miniata grouper or racoon butterfly for the blue face.

RE water quality - not wishing to dash your hopes, but you are going to struggle to get anywhere near reef conditions with 6 big fish in that tank....... a HUGE skimmer, DSB, remote DSB, large refugium AND lots of water changes.......

And finally - a note on emporer angel. In my view, this guy really needs to feel like king of the hill in the tank, if he is to thrive. A Good diet is obviosuly essential, but your biggest battle is going to be water quality. My advice to you would be this..... give some serious consideration to what you are taking on..... if you are up to the task of mnaging water qualtiy (only you know this), then you should be fine..... if you have any doubts then either select a different angel which will be a little hardier and equally as nice (maculosus / asfur / koran / passer / french) or reduce the stock by letting out a couple of the heavy feeders like the puffer and include something smaller and less of a "monster" when it comes to feed :)

Good luck - sounds great so far ;)

p.s. on the skimmer..... I'd be aiming for something that you would put on a 500 gal reef tank..... one of the big Deltecs prehaps (AP703?) that can be plumbed to take the feed water directly from the overflow.....
