215G In Wall Build

The lightrack has room for another halide, is it worth having a halide over the glass center brace of the tank?

I'm going to add a place for a third pendant to the rack, weither or not I actually go out and buy a third luminarc/ballast/bulb is still up in the air. I'm thinking a 250w would suffice but its always good knowing that the option is available.

After some research it looks like the mini luminarc would fit in between the two L3's just fine. I also want to put some moonlights on the rack so I have added that as well, here's what I came up with...

Update:

The old plans of my refugium setup just wasn't doing it for me, so I made some new ones...

The light rack is finished!

I decided to suspend the rack from a pocket door rail to move it out of the way when I need to get into the tank. I can also raise and lower it by adjusting the chain.

And the results of L3 reflectors...

Great Job! Where did you get your Light rail system?

I actually built the light rail out of 1/8" aluminum angle. You can get the stuff at Lowes or Home Depot for about $18 for 6 feet. I riveted all the parts together and it holds up pretty well.

There are pictures of the "blue prints" a few posts up.

LMK if you have any questions.

that is nice aquascaping
Thank you! I'm very happy with it, I don't have many dead spots with all the open space.

I got my VHO's hooked up! (Thanks Will!)

I'll take some pics tomorrow with the MH & VHO.

Enjoy!

First off - I must say - beautiful! Exactly what I want to do in my next home.

Hard to tell from the pictures where they are in relation to the center brace, but are you at all worried about the heat from the halides on that center brace - maybe weakening it over time - especially if you add the 3rd halide, which I assume will be directly over top of the brace.

Definitely looks like a reef tank now. :)

No better way to enhance the visuals of a tank than to add a few actinics!

Thank you, topshotta!

The L3's shine over the 24" center brace by about 4-5" on each side. I do have a huge amount of water flow underneath the center brace which should in theory keep it cool although I dont think I will add the 3rd halide to test my theory!

Maybe a VHO or two will help lighten up the center area over the brace. I only have 14" of room so I may need to find something else. I'm not unhappy with the way it looks now so I may not fix what doesn't appear to be broken :)

Thanks for sharing my tank with me!

Yeah - from the pictures I don't think you need any additional light in the middle. I think it looks good as is. The LED's though for moonlighting will be cool. Nice choice of tank btw - brand and size. I wasn't familar with the 215 and google'd it to get the dimensions - nice!!
