22" = what lighting

i have a 28" high tank at the moment. im going to downgrade to 22", and will continue to keep sps.

should i change my lighting to 250w or stay with the 400w.
the difference in running costs isnt much , but im more concerned with the corals?

what do you think?

Wow, 400w on a 22" tank is going to be hot. I guess you could hang the lights higher... but 250w would probably be better.

the corals will still be receiving the same amount of light they were previously receiving in the top 22" of you old tank anyway. It wont make one bit of difference.

Not necessarily true. If he's moving from a 28" to a 22" tall tank... they would receive more possibly. Thus why I suggested a 250w light for a 22" tall tank. But you could hang the 400w higher and go with it. It's a bit much though.

i cant hang the light higher as the light spread will be too much, outside the tank.

do you think there is a risk of bleaching if the corals were halfway down?
