225 Gallon in Mass.

Any ideas to help me along with the first algae bloom? I have only a few fish in there right now. A hippo Tang, purple tang and some small cardinals. I have the lights on for just a few hours a day to control the algae as I know it is really just for my viewing pleasure at the moment. With no corals in there the fish are just fine with the day’s sunlight. Any other advice would be great!

Wow Scott that setup is beautiful, I see why the Vortechs wouldn't work for you.

Lights out is usually best bet for eliminating algae so you're on the right track, just part of the new tank joy. Hopefully it clears up quick for you.

No corals as of yet but a few recent additions. I thought the Tiger Cowrie was pretty neat. I will keep an eye on it once I start adding corals. They say it may eat some soft corals as an adult. If it develops an appetite I do not think it will be hard to get out and just keep it in my sump as they are great scavengers. As for the fish it was very tough to get a decent shot of all three.

Not quite sure but I have not been able to post in some time. I have upgraded my office network and all seems to be fine. I will update with some new pictures shortly…

I really like the oak cover. Definitely gave me an idea for my 240g.

Good thing you could post again or I might not have found this idea!

I think I just drooled a little. I LOVE Majestic Angels. Plus I see a nice looking Regal. All the fish look great, but I have a special love for Angels.

Hey, I've seen these pics somewhere before. ;) How big are the Regal and Majestic angels?

How are you liking the Litermeter III?

Hey Paul the Regal is about three inches and the Majestic is about five plus inches. The Litermeter is one piece of equipment I have never regretted buying. I also have two additional pumps for hands free water changes. For a while I was changing about five gallons per day. All programmed within a 24hr period by the litermeter.

The Litermeter can dose I believe up to 30 gallons per day. It takes the programmed total desired amount and divides that into 150 portions within a 24hr. period. The two additional pumps I mentioned earlier are for this purpose. One pump takes water from my sump and dumps it down the drain. The other pump takes the new premixed water and returns it into the sump.
All this is done in series. So as it takes one of the divided portions out with pump B it then moves on to pump C. All the while pump A (the actual Litermeter) is used for Kalk / evaporation top off. It sounds like a lot of work but it is as simple as turning on pump B & C and walk away … turn them off 24 hours later. The key is that my storage container for salt water mixing is 35 gallons. That said if I ever forgot to turn the pumps off I am only going to do a 35 gallon water change in about a true 200 gallons of water.

That is one beautiful Sohal...I keep telling myself, one of these days. :)

Do you have any detailed pics of where you placed the reactor and skimmer?

That sounds like a good system for water changes. Thirty five gallons is a good amount, no? How often do you change your water?

I agree, that Sohal is an awesome looking fish. I'm a bit weary of them though. Aside from how big they can get, I hear they can get really nasty.

Partly what is holding me back from getting one...well, that and getting the wife to agree on the cost.

Awesome looking setup.

I am definitely interested in hearing more about your water change setup. I really want to setup the automatic couple of gallon a day water change on my new 280 can you possibly give some more specific detail on it? Do you have to turn it on yourself or does it change so many gallons of water a day?

Thanks for the help
Jason

You program it to change the amount of water. I will post a few pictures or put a link to the set up. All very easy to do. you can program and or change the amount in seconds. IMO a great addition to my set up.
