230 Gallon Reef Fish wish list

Hi all,

I went through a recent tank crash in my 125; kinda starting over and upgrading to 250; everything is stable, tank has corals in it now iwth inverts 0 fish; all left over fish are in QT being treated for ich.

That said I want to build a fish wish list and see your thoughts here. . .

I happen to like tangs a lot!

I currently have:

1) 2 diamond gobies
2) 4 green chromis
3) 4 clown fish
4) Fox Face
5) Watchman Goby


I want: more colorful fish. The more the merrier so long as my tank can handle it. Here's what I want to add:

1) 2 blue hippos (can I if I intro at same time?)
2) naso tang
3) Possibly a powder blue tang?? (thoughts?)
4) Possibly a yellow tang? (Thoughts?

Any other good mix of fish I can add without risk of over stock to maximize enjoyment?

Tank dimesnsions would really help. I would not attempt two of the same species of tangs in that small of a tank(they need the room). You could do a hippo, naso, yellow tang, and PBT in that order if your tank is 8ft long. If it isn't cut it down to three and rethink the tangs you want.

You should look into anthias(resplendents and lyretails are my favorites). They will "shoal" for lack of a better word in a tank if you keep a small group. I also would think that flasher and fairy wrasses would fit right in with your tank. They are peaceful and very colorful.

Tank dimensions are 25"high 84.5" long and 24.5" wide
 
From reading other threads on RC any tang from the naso genus needs a 10ft tank or bigger. I definitly would not put one in the tank you have because of deninsion but the rest looks good make sure you add the powder blue last due to agression.

Yeah I know I cant remember the name but a recently there was a thread on RC about a naso tang and many people said that it should be in a 10ft tank it was in a 8ft 240.

Liveaquaria tends to "underrate" the tank size slightly on some of the fish, but it is the most accurate vendor in terms of minimum tank size ratings.

I certainly believe adult naso tangs shouldn't be in anything shorter than an 8-foot long aquarium, with 10-foot being ideal. my 8.5" male naso is already starting to look a little "funny" in my 6-foot 225g and i'm in the process of planning for a 400g, 96"x36"x27", which hopefully will be completed around this time next year.

another thing about keeping a naso in a 8-foot 240 is that the tank is not wide enough. cared for properly, a naso should be able to reach 15", and will look weird trying to turn in a 24" wide tank. I think the minimum tank width for naso tang should be 30", with 36" being ideal.
 
If I leave the naso and powder out of my tank, are there any other peaceful tangs I could add to the tank that won't cost over a hundred?
 
There is also the much over looked, convict tang. They are actually known to get picked on by more aggressive tangs and need to be bought healthy which is the hardest thing about having one. The lavender tang looks very interesting, although not as brightly colored as I prefer...
