240/3 Skimmer....

I just read in a previous post that the model 240/3 skimmer has been redesigned. I have the old model, and while I really like it, I was wondering how it has been improved, and if it's possible that I could upgrade my one? Thanks.

The cup has changed to a one piece cup with a wide throat that is really tall. Otherwise the system is the same except the silencers are now slightly different and the coupler between the pump and the skimmer body. I suppose I can get a cup for you without much trouble- let me see.

Thank you Roger, I appreciate it. Do you think the performance of the skimmer is significantly increased the the new cup design? I don't want to be a bother to you, and especially not if you don't think it will have much effect. Also do you think this will have any effect on the plankton friendliness of the skimmer, because right now I'm really impressed with the amount of microlife I have, including a self sustaining population of what I guess are some kind of rotifer swimming around in my refugium, I wouldn't want to spoil that. Also, how tall is the new cup if you think it's worth getting it because i have about 16" of overhead space right now above the skimmer, certainly it's not taller than that?? Thanks again.

The cup will fit. It is a big advantage because in the old design gunk built up and broke the foam column- frankly I was not terribly impressed with old design. It will remain plankton friendly but the removal of organics and duration between service will be improved. It is not a bother in anyway.
