No it is some sort of a cotton candy type algae. It had been a giant nusiance lately. My vodka dosing and macro algaes are not getting the job done right now.

Wen you say your return lines run front to back you mean they are plumbed through canopy and aimed at back of tank, correct?

Have you considered lowering your T5s for better light output? I went with the 36" instead of the 48" T5s so I could have them lower and they wont be on the way when doing maintenance. Got them 9" above the water level and the coverage/output is amazing at that height

Sorry I meant the other way. The return lines are in the back piece of acylic and they are pointed toward the front.

Thats a good idea. I am use two 36"'s and two 48"'s right now. I am pretty happy with it now but a little extra pop would be nice

I had too much flow in the front of my tank for my LPS when I had one of the Tunzes firing back to front. I shut if off and there is still plenty of flow. I don't see and issue unless you have 6ft or more to deal with.

I have been following this thread since the beginning, it was one the threads that made me want a deep dimension tank. A few years ago I found what I wanted, a 40x40x17" pentagon. My only regret is the 17" height, I would have preferred a 24" but it has worked for me because of the low aquascape.

Have you had a chance to do a par check since the change to the LumenMax Large reflector? I am seriously considering switching from my dual 150 watt LumenArc Mini's to a single 250 or 400 with this reflector. I know it is the best reflector for spread but other than Sanjay's testing, I have not seen any real world par readings.

Sorry no Par reading. The guy I borrowed the meter from no longer lives in the area so I have not been able to test it. From the looks of things the light is much more spread out and even.

How has the acrylic worked for you? Really love the dimensions of your tank and thinking of getting one similar. A starphire tank is 2x the amount of the acrylic one I am looking at. Have you had issues with scratches and cleaning?

I like the acrylic but it has scratched. The nice thing is you can fix it if you do. It can be tricking to clean especially with coraline algae near the sand bed. A plastic scrapper does not work real well and it can be a pain in the butt. The scratches don't bother me too much but I know some people that dont like it at all. It was easy when I moved it to my basement it was not too bad and two people and lift it into place.

I would go acrylic again but just be prepared that it is harder to clean and will scratch
