240 Inwall Construction (Image Intense)

A pH of 6.5 from the reactor and 6.9 after the second chamber. I run my reactor pretty hard and with the KORALlith media, I have to run a relatively low pH. Of course, your levels may vary based on your tanks' demand but 6.5 works well for me.

On a related but side note, I've begun supplementing ESV B-Ionic to help boost my levels. Since doing so, I've seen slightly better coral color and growth rates. ;) It was either this or add a second reactor so I chose the easier route.

Overflow Screen

Overflow Screen

Hi Weatherson,

I was going back through your inspiring thread (the thread inspired me to make some of my own "Weatherson-like" equipment) to look at your overflow screen.

Can you please explain how the removable perforated pipe is mounted onto the remaining teeth of the overflow?

Joseph for some time i have been using Korallith in the lower half of the reactor and gen-x c r m on the top half thay are not mix togther.i used to have low ph at night but with the two kinds of media it stay 7.9 ph until the lights come and the calcium and alkalinity, magnesium are doing very well . The reactor is a geo 6-24 no second chamber is used and no additives are added to the tank. Ralph

Hesham,

First, I cut the perforated pipe to length with a 45-degree miter on both ends that meet at the inside corner. Then, I cut a straight line on the utmost bottom the full length of the two pieces. This is where the pipe then slides over the remaining weirs of the prefilter box. I also drilled out the small pre-made holes to make them slightly larger and cut away a few of the rows of dividers between these holes as seen in the photo. The half of the pipe that resides inside the prefilter box I cut away most of the material leaving a few sections to keep the pipe in place. This helped to keep a better flow of water going smoothly and quietly into the box. Hope this all makes sense.

Ralph,

Thanks for the input.

Joseph.

Thanks Joseph - the fog has cleared. I didn't realize that the remaining body of the perforated pipe was acting as a light duty spring clamp to keep the screen in place.

Hesham.

Mr. Weatherson, I'm sure it's been asked before, but I don't want to go back and read this whole thread. What camera are you using to take your photos?

Nathan,

Nothing new to speak of as the tank has been in "cruise mode" for a while now. Although, I did get inspired again after attending the local Eric Borneman presentation. He definitely knows his corals and all things related to them. It's hard to not get enspired after listening to him. Apparently, he too has had Pocillipora reproduction in his tank as I have in mine. Not necessarily a 100% good thing. ;)

I did have my Nothstar colony go through a bleach event again as it's done before. Not sure why this happens as it's the only coral that does while all the others show no negative signs during. This coral has proven to be extremely temperamental and pretty much every frag I've ever given out has not made it. Supposedly, BigRed (Steve) still has some tips growing on the frag I gave to him. Actually, I originally received this coral from him. Anyway, just like the last time this coral went through a bleaching spell about a year ago, there are small areas where the tissue hasn't sloughed off. Hopefully, it will once again grow back to a colony and I can try again to get this coral out to others with better success.

The ORA corals are stil in the 12-gallon nano waiting to be transferred to the 24-gallon once I get it up and running. I'd been waiting on a part for the OM Squirt but now have that. Now I need to design and build a wooden stand for this tank. My plan is to start this tank with the 12-gallon still running and then do the transfer after it's had time to mature. There's a backup frag of the Northstar in the nano so everything has to be done right with as little disruption as possible.

Mr. Wedehase,

Very funny. Actually, all the photos were created from scratch in MS Paint. Pretty impressive, huh? ;)

Joseph.

Talk about DIY! You have an amazing tank and I am REALLY impressed with both your ingenuity and attention to detail! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Joe, hows it going.
This is the 1st time Ive looked through your tank thread on RC, I love going through the evolution of a tank. Being a tinkerer like you I'm in auh of your fish room, Ive seen it twice and I could spend hours trippin on all the fabrication in there. I wish I had the time and skill to do more DIY projects, If your anything like me you get more satisfaction out of building something rather than buying it. Its like the difference of building a hot rod your self or have one built, any one can have one built, but when you build something yourself there is a lot more pride involved. Any way awesome tank and fish room, I'm starting my 180 build and would appreciate any input at I go along.
take it easy jeremy

Dominic,
Thanks for the kind words.

kaiserkid,
Thanks and you are welcome.

Jeremy,
I definitely enjoy making things myself rather than purchasing them and not just for the financial savings typically gained. Plus, some of my builds are designs that can't be purchased. ;) Thanks for the kind words and do start a thread of your upcoming build. I look forward to seeing and following it.

Joseph.

Joseph, can we see some new pictures of your tank? The last ones you posted were from a coral spawning event in Dec 08.
