RGibson: I don't know of the 6200 but a fellow club mate has 6100's and a Kill-a-watt so I'll try and get that for you if you are interested.

I just tested my 6100 with a kill-a-watt. At idle was 0.07 amp / 02 watt. On cycle was 0.28 amp / 24 watt. It did not change over its cycle which I thought it would change as it sped up.

This is the program I'm running in my controller:

sorry bout that... forgot to do the task the first time joe mentioned!

okie dokie... kill-a-watt vs. tunze 6100 going through a tunze 7094 multicontroller....

i forced the multicontroller into 'night time mode' so it would not oscilate any.

then i ramped up the 'low' setting on the mulicontroller from min to max and here is what i got:

30% setting on multicontroller* = 6-12W**
40% = 19W
65% = 27W
80% = 33W
100%*** = 40W

* the minimum setting on the 7094 multicontroller

** at this setting - my tunze 6100 'chirped' VERY slightly. just enough to sound the piezo. (which means it was 'stopping or stuck' and would ramp from 6-12W.) i could hear the sound of the 6100 struggling to stay on. it was trying to turn on and off.

*** the maximum setting on the 7094 multicontroller

incidently, i hooked it up to my icecap 660 which is currently firing mixed bulbs:
2 x 54W T5's
2 x 110W VHO

and the kill-a-watt read 304W

Thanks Whodah. Interesting on the IC660 as mine run at 251-watts with four 110-watt VHO's. Those T5's suck more power?

THe icecap 660 will overdrive the bulbs a lot. My 39watt T5s run at 60 watts a piece and have been running for 6 months with no obvious color shift. THey also run a lot hotter. I have a Kill a Watt and my 6 lamps use 318 watts? I have a tunze 6000 and a multi coming on Monday so I am interested to see the difference between the 6000 and 6100.
 
hrm... well....

2 x 110W VHO + 2 x 54W T5 = 328W total

and of course:

4 x 110W VHO = 440W total

but your's is only doing 251W eh?

was your dimmer on during the measurement by chance?
 
Whodah: I tested the non-dimming ballast but now that I look at those numbers, I think they are incorrect. Looking at my chart of electrical use, the Iwaki 100 uses 3.07 amps and 353 watts while the IC 660 ballast uses 3.41 amps and is listed as only 251 watts. I think I need to borrow your Kill-a-watt meter again. :D Even if it was a typo and should have been 351 watts, that's still not right. Hmm.

notta problem on borrowing the kill-a-watt. i'll put it in my car so next time we meet, it's there! now remembering to put it in my car however... ;)

one thing to remember is that:
wattage = current * voltage

now i think the IC and iwaki are both running at 120V... but if one of those is kicking down the voltage (transformer), that could explain the difference in wattage even though the current looks close...
 
hrm... u know what, i disagree w/ myself on that above statement... heh!

upon further thought, the kill-a-watt has to be measuring the AC voltage... i.e. if you plug in a 12V 100mA AC transformer into it or whatever, the kill-a-watt would still read 120V AC... (i think, ha!)

hrm. i think i confused myself, nevermind! LOL!
 
Kilowatt (Watt) is a measure of power consumed, not voltage or Current

Here's the formula... P=I X E

P (Power in watts) = I (Current (milli-Amps/Amps)) X(times) E (Electromotive Force i.e. Voltage)

The Cowry showed itself today after a several month hiatus. I managed to get a couple shots with its mantel receded showing its shell. Here's a shot from a distance followed by a close-up.

Sweeeeeeeeet! I was looking forward to that. Since you've had it, you've never posted anything negative about it. Makes me want to get a Tiger Cowrie again. :)

What size would you say it is now? 2.5"?
 
Marc: It's probably all of 2" as seen. A bit larger when on the move and its mantel out and covering its shell. Here's a refresher shot from when I captured him on the move and in full glory.
