So, the time has come to setup the 240 anemone tank. And, since the reef discussion always has these things i figured mines well start this one in this forum, you guys will get more enjoyment out of it then the general members anyway. That and the fact this is basically the only subforum i visit on this site.
Anyways, so what we have here.
48x48x24. I think its approximently 240gals.

The sump is 38x24x16.

And the refugium is just a small cube i had laying around. Its roughly 25gallons.

The stand is made out of mahogany. There is a center overflow that will be drilled with a two inch drain and a two inch return.

Havent quite decided on the return pump yet. I'm thinking roughly 2500gph for the return pump.
Also plumbed in will be a closed loop running roughly 1500gph.

wow, very exciting stuff austin...just what do you plan on housing in there? multiple species of anemone? multiple clowns? for sale or display?

perhaps a huge colony of magnificas and a swarm of bicinctus clowns?!

look forward to this tanks development, and seeing it in person!

For inhabitants, i havent decided yet, which is also a factor in the c.l. It will either be turned into a magnifica system, Housing a 3ft plus purple magnifica that has been in captivity for 3years and has spawned multiple times in captivity.

Possible multiple magnificas. If i can find a known captive male magnifica then that will be the other. two rock towers. For display only.

my god a tank build in the anemones forum that is fantastic ;)

Austin that is going to be really very nice i will be following closely

Any ideas what you will use for a skimmer? going to need to be big for a system where you plan on anemones spawning regularly.

Tank is very cool, and the 48inch depth will make it look amazing

I will be definately following this thread. I am glad you decided to post this one in the Anemones & Clownfish. We usually don't get these type of threads. ;)

So about your lighting...strictly MH, T5s or the combo?

THese are definately my favorite types of threads, and now I don't have to go visit another forum to read one }:cP. Good luck.

Do you mind giving us a little background info on how you acquired such a large tank?

That is going to be one cool tank!! My current tank has a footprint of 96" x 30", and I wish I had the space to make mine wider. There is a similar tank to yours at a LFS in my area, they have a single 1000w MH over the center of it that provides plenty of light.

This is probably a dumb question since it is an anemone tank, but are you going to have any like Tunze streams inside it for added circulation?

Good luck!

Great idea. Looking forward to this one.

Multiple different acrylic manufactures on the tank though is highly irregular/odd...

I believe the lighting is going to be a single 600w mh. Possibly dual 400's. or maybe a 1000. Not sure yet obviously.

Absolutely no powerheads or anything else in teh tank besides lr and sand. Possibly a closed loop. I'm also working on a diy wavebox for it maybe.

PS - who built your tank, and what thickness acrylic is that?
Tank was built by a friend who is a tank builder. All it cost me was materials, which he made out of leftover acrylic, hence the different brands.
3/8" on all four sides.
and i dont remember what top and bottom are out of.
