No, Thats not thinking. This is going to be a Natural tank. Species specific. If you can show me a picture of a few magnifica's, with a small gigantea underneath the side somewhere from the ocean. i will do it. Otherwise, One species.

its your tank, i respect the desire to keep it species specific

No chemical warfare for me! :-)

exactly! even if someone could produce a picture w/ h. magnifica and s. mertensii in close proximity on the reef, the dillution there and "water change" is so vast, it doesn't compare to our small tanks (though yours is not quite so small as most of ours! :) ).

And if memory serves, the s. mertensii are not found "near" h. magnifica.

we are speaking of gigantea and magnifica's. But they arent found together either way. Gigantea's and magnifica's are found in somewhat of the same conditions, while mertensii is completetly opposite habitat wise to either of those anemones.

:hmm2:

I should read more carefully... :)

I was watching the Nova special on the GBR the other night and I could swear I saw pink skunks in a magnifica and akindynos in a gigantea.

I'll have to double check that one...

I saw mertens and magnificas in identical conditions and in the same areas of the reef in fiji. The magnificas were often seen deeper than the mertens I saw.
Pics at the link below, but the only way to tell depth is by the order during the dive the pics were taken.

I love them all:) I think your tank would be beautiful with the H. Mag you've got.

I got pink skunks in a H. mag in mine tank. The same pink Skunk pair also take control of a giantea.
Let me see if I could find some pics.

I would love to see that...
I watched it again... they certainly do show pink's in a magnifica and akindynos in a gigantea. Mind, they aren't next to each other but they seemed to be in close to the same conditions (though it appeared the magnifica was on the slopes and gigantea was on the flats).

It's tough to know for sure their proximity, what with the tight zooms of these kinds of shows.

It seems to me that the proximity would be close enough in the wild to take the leap and make a GBR themed tank, with both anemone types in it.

I think that baby green gigantea would look perfect in this tank and you should send it to me...Lol.
I will think about that, but as an update. I have, water, sand, and about 30 pounds of rock in the tank atm to start the cycle....The evil wait begins.
But on a better note, i used all water from other established systems, along with cured lr out of other systems, and live sand. So i am expecting a pretty fast cycle.
Still no skimmer or anything. Waiting on that.
Pictures will be up in a little while.

List of things to do:
Drill closed loop, change out return pump with smaller pump and make that the closed loop pump.

Hang lights from ceiling: two 400w halides w/ lumenarc reflectors.
Cindy, Phil, jordan, what do you think of running 20k radiums over this system? will the anemones mind that much in your opinion. As i don't want to run actinic supplements if i dont have to and i like a bluer light, especially for this kind of display...

Get more lr from vanuatu, They have the best lr ever there. About 150 more pounds, ideally gigantic pieces. maybe 3?

Install skimmer.

Wait for cycle to finish.

Wait longer for tank to stabalize.

decide on anemone

Decide on clownfish.

acquire decided species.

ive used 400w 20k radiums as my sole source of light for the last five years. i too didnt want supplemental lighting. the anemones will flourish. i think the radiums satisfied all the needs of any of the organisms ive ever had, and produced the best colors. im going to try dabble in the 20k XMs for my next set, apparently they have a higher PAR value, but still maintain the crisp blue/white light. im using the lumenarcs right now, and very much enjoy them.

I love the lumenarcs! they put out such amazing range of light. That is what i wanted to know two jordan. Thankyou. Maybe i will try one radium, and one 20k xm? we will see.
