240g anemone cube build thread...

Never saw a Radium lit tank that wasn't a nice colour...

With the 400s and lumenarcs I'm sure you'll be happy with either the Radium or the XM. Like you said, maybe try one of each and see which one you like better.

Im going to hook those bulbs up tommorow and compare. I wish pictures could capture the color to show the difference but i doubt the cheap camera im using will...

RUn the 20k's with a Pulse start ballast. I will lend you a single for a little while to get you started, and you can see the diff. between the HQI ballast and the PS.

Closed loop? Dang! This oughta be fun. Better start getting some cold ones in the fridge:D

Yea, were gonna have to do a closed loop chewie. No matter what i decide on for inhabitants, The flow going through that tank isnt enough for most the species listed in the other thread. Plus, the skimmer wont be able to process all the water going through that sump w/that giant pump we have on there right now.
I will have patrick stalk the fridge, anything in particular you want lol?

I'll swing by woody's and get some. We dont have any in right now.

For those of you that have noticed. Chewie is my plumbing master that has been doing alot of the plumbing on this system as i am a terrible plumber, and he is not.

I dunno. probably 2 months i would assume. With using used water, rock, and ls, the cycle will go fast. And they are the only bioload in the tank besides clownfish, maybe 3 months? Depends on how the cycle goes and how happy i am with it. Maybe more, maybe less. he system won't need 6 months to stabalize w/the way i set it up. We will see. It also depends on the species. Who knows how long if i go with merten's it will take me to obtain 2 or 3 of them. Same w/magnifica. Gigantea are not that hard to find in a healthy condition, especially if you know what you looking for.
For some reason Jordan's idea of having the magnifica's in there with the one gigantea stashed away has me thinking about that all the time lol.

Btw, jordan, you have a bta in your magnifica system? You experience no chemical warfare between the two?

ive never been entirely settled on the chemical warfare idea. back when i only had magnificas, i couldnt keep haddoni carpets at all. very healthy appearing carpets would just die in under two weeks, regardless of the water changes, refugium or main tank and/or carbon added. i blamed the magnificas. long tentacle and bubble tips seems unaffected however.

but now i have a haddoni in my refugium, and its living. i cant explain it. the only difference being this haddoni is a brown one vs the bright neon green ones i had been attempting.

i have a medium sized rose bubble tip in with the h. crispa, and another bubble tip in with the magnificas. chemically, ive never noticed any problems. but i do think the magnificas are not pleased by the direct sting of a bubble tip anemone. its only when they try to occupy the same rock top that i had problems.

ic. I had a bad expeirence w/my magnifica when i attempted adding a bta in the same system, not aquarium, just same connected water. My magnifica moved the first day all over the place. I removed the bta, and it stopped moving....Something happened.

we are speaking of gigantea and magnifica's. But they arent found together either way. Gigantea's and magnifica's are found in somewhat of the same conditions, while mertensii is completetly opposite habitat wise to either of those anemones.

They're found together in my tank! :D

No negative effects from that? minus the fact it doesnt look natural?

No negative effects. The anemones touch and neither one shows any type of response. I won't comment on the "natural look".

:D

interesting, very interesting.
Cindy:
When you saw the merten's in the wild. Did you see them in high current or high light? Mine seems to really dislike both of those, as phil has told me his do to i believe. If i increase the alternating flow, or give it more lights, it moves or just doesnt do as good as it does under vho's and just a steady slower current....Any observations on this?

Got the rock in, not sure if i am happy with the aquascaping yet but its how it is for now. I also just have t-5's lighting it now as the lights for it havent come in yet. My green algae bloom has started and the cycle is in full swing....
Also have a nice brown tint to the water from the lr i believe.... I am running carbon to get rid of that.
