240g anemone cube build thread...

Also added a school of i think 6 blue and green chromis.
So plans for the stocklist are this:
magnifica anemone(s)
Probably a big bunch of nigripes.
Possibly a gigantea stashed in the side bottom somewhere with a wc pair of onyx's.
Multiple clams on the sand.
I beleive thats in besides maybe a watchman goby/pistol shrimp pair.

I'm jumping in here a little late. Nice set-up Austin.
I really like Jordon's idea of two magnifica's and a gigantea in the sandbed. The down side would be that all clowns that like giganteas also like magnificas. You might end up having a battle over the mags.
Although I have seen videos of wild mertens getting blown all over the place, I don't think they like it that much in an aquarium. Although I can't imagine why, my experience has been that they would not be fond of all the light that you would want for your magnificas either. There is something very cool about the way orange skunks move through a mertens though.

Speaking of mertens, did your connection come through? Send me a PM.

I love the ideas on this build man, I'm planning a set up of my own pretty soon. Will those chromis become aggressive towards the clowns? I like the school of chromis..

this is pretty much my dream tank... nigripes, magnificas and clams... sigh. for now i must live vicariously.

I just realized how much I would hate buying a cleanup crew for a 240 gallon. Tank looks great.
Thanks

In your opinion do you think that the clowns perfer magnifica? Say an onyx or possibly black ocellaris? I could just go with one species. And have them use the magnifica's and the gigantea's. Maybe?
i will just have to keep the merten's in the 72 i'm in the middle of setting up then, or something...

I don't know about the chromis, this is the first tank i have set up that is big enough to actually house a school w/out being the only fish in there. afaik they are peaceful with other tank mates and stay that way, with some aggresion between each other, and honestly, for $6 thats alright.

The aquascaping is pretty cool. I like some of the arches you have going. How much did that tank itself cost?
Not as much as the rock lol.

My experience with nigripes has shown them to be perfectly willing to host about anything, (I've had them host BTA's, gigantea's, haddoni's and doreensis) but are somewhat hesitant to go for something from the carpet family.

They'll move into something with long flowing tentacles within a couple hours, carpets a couple days so it may very well be possible to move 'gripes in with magnifica's while training some onyx to accept a gigantea in a smaller tank which you move into the main tank later.

The nigripes should avoid the gigantea's while defending the magnifica's. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work out.

hey illcssd,
I have been following your thread and thought I might post a thought in it. As to your idea on getting of a pair of onyx clowns. I know you are looking at getting a wild caught pair, but maybe looking into some captive bred onyx clowns from rods reef would be a good option. I just got a pair from him about a week ago and I couldn't be more happy with them. They are very healthy and the colors coming in are just great. This is just a suggestion and I am excited to see the progress on your tank. Keep up the great work.

I know rod's clowns. I want to breed clowns more, i have others, and those are a pair i don't have and when breeding clowns i perfer to start w/wc for the first generation.

do you think two pairs of onyx could get along? with 3 hosts maybee... i would love to see that

Edit just a thought i think two kinds would be cooler but there could be too much aggression forcing the decision beetween the two kinds of clowns

I doubt it. Unless i put a gigantea on the left side of the rocks, and one on the right. Then possibly, i dont know if i want to risk it though.

I am only going from my perception as to why I have been able to keep two different clown species in a 60 gal tank. The anemones match the clowns and the preferences don't over lap.

I like Chupacapras idea of starting the gigantea/onyx pairing in a seperate tank and then transfering them together into the cube. Of course there are no guarentees, but I think that would do the trick.

Haha, yeah i'm starting to feel the horrors of live rock cost as I'm beginning to set up my 150 gallon.
