240g anemone cube build thread...

My nigripes will be a colony. But i am not gonna be able to do two colonies of clowns. Just one and maybe, just maybe if i am lucky, a pair of onyx's.

Idk man...in that size tank put 8-10 of each and you will be golden...with all the anemone real-estate you will have available I do not for-see any major problems. Also do not put them all in at same sizes. Put a big female them a mix of smaller sizes. If you do a few ritteri's and a few Gigantea's or what not you will have no problem pulling it off.

Tommorow morning, i have a green algae bloom going on so its not real pretty. It is some kind of phytoplankton because its in the water column. I hooked up a uv to the system to try and help clear the water....
So, to keep track of inhabitants. This is what i have added to the system so far....
8 Chromis viridis (green chromis)
A pair of Valenciennea strigata (golden headed sleeper gobies)
And i will make a comment on those guys, they absolutely rock for cleaning sand. I absolutely love them. I will try and get a picture tommorow morning two.
Currently the levels are as follows
Nh3: 0
N02: 3ish
N03: Running around 40 atm.

Low tide for closed loop, and man, did this live rock smell like the tidepools, it was crazy, watching the crabs and snails and stuff crawl around.
I also changed aquascaping a little bit while there was no water in it. I had to make sure the back part wasnt touching the back wall because i Know that the magnifica will decide it wants to attach to the overflow, so i'm basically happy with it now, i need some more small peices that i will add probably later today. Anyways, low tide pics.

Are you just changing 100% of the water or something? I've never completely emptied a tank before after setting it up, just curious

nope, buckets were my friend, i had to drain it to drill the closed loop lol. I did change about 30% of the water. Which i have been doing twice a week anyways.

Very cool thread. Love your rockwork, tank, and your plans!

:)

Where did you get your live rock, if you don't mind sharing? And what is your total poundage of rock in there?

Austin here comes the big criticism the rock in the front left is making the tank look cluttered from what i can see in the pictures try taking it an using it to bulk up the right side of something if you understand and agree it sort of blocks the whole left side

is that a SSB if so how thick?

Thanks for the compliments, the rock came from vanuatu, saltwater fanta-seas is the store.
Roughly 200 pounds.

I agree wholeheartidly, you have no idea how hard it is to aquascape without having the rocks too high or having them touching the walls. But, give me a little while and i will post a new pic after i change it...
Time to get wet.

No, especially considering that peice you want me to move, weighs close to a hundred pounds.

Dang :( Well at least you'll get a good work out from all of this and be buff :hammer: lol. I'd be really scared to move that, being slippery, heavy, and awkward to move leaning over the wall, I'd be fraid of it slipping and crashing through the bottom, or cracking it even.

sorry for asking a question which is probably a duh to the rest of you, but I'm not familiar with the large plumbing system lingo like "closed loop" sicne I've been dealing with nanos for years. But as I'm setting up my 150 I am trying to figure out what kind of filtration I need to put in. Thanks!

Closed loop isnt a filtration, it is a form of water circulation. Basically you your drains, seperate from the overflow, towards the bottom of the tank, or on the bottom, thats where i like them, then you take those lines and plumb them into a pump, then back into other holes for the return, in my case four return lines. i will get a picture in a second.

Ps, i dont think im going to crack the acylic, never heard of that before, plus, all the sharp edges that are grabbing, puncturing and tearing my hand open give me good grip, not nessisarly enjoyable, but definitly full of grip lol.

so austin you got me, I am going to start planning for an anemone clown cube i have 2x250w pendants that i want to use to light it so i will need to keep it smaller

it seems like i can get a great price on acrylic compared to glass. Anything you dont like about acrylic?

im thinking a 36x30x24 not a real cube but cubeish and i have the space for it :)

how thick is your sandbed and if you werent using a sandbed would it matter besides asthetics? since mags dont need sand?

Besides the fact that it scratches so easily?
No i love it, that is the only downside and i am pretty careful so its not a big deal. Plus the fact of how light it is and i could carry this tank empty by myself.
My sandbed varies alot right now, from acrylic showing to 3". but generally i like to keep it at about 1 1/2." thats where this will be at. Mags dont need sand, but some of the other critters i want to keep do, like my gobies. Plus, i would never want to have a magnifica without nassarius snails because anything the magnifica doesnt eat, those guys will, and they need sand.
Also, the purple gigantea i'm going to be putting in would not like no sand that well.....
Add all that to the fact that i think bb looks god awful then i guess there is no reason to not have sand lol.
back to aquascaping i go.
