Here is a picture of the tank laying on its back.

I decided to refinish the entire tank due to a few minor scratches. I will start with 220 grit wet/dry sand paper and working my way threw 400, 600, 800, 1000 and 2000. Then I will polish with Novus #3 and then #2 to a perfectly clear finish.

I wouldn't start with a 220, you would be better off starting with a higher grit such as a 800 and just using a D/A sander. It will make a lot less work for you in the long run.

Started building the stand. Stand construction is made up of 2x4 for the legs and bottom horizontal members. The top members are made of 2x6 material to carry all the weight. the top and bottom sheathing are roughly 3/4" plywood. I used exterior screws throughout due to the possible high moisture environment. The trim is all oak. Went with 3/4" veneer on the face and sides to increase the strength and stability of the stand. 1x2 solid oak for the post trim and 1x4 solid oak for the cap or ledge. I will use allot of pocket screw connections on this project due to the cleanliness and strength of the connection.

Below are a few pictures of the progress I made.

Thanks for all the kind words. This is my first time building a stand and canopy or any other furniture grade project.

Beautiful work so far. Wish I was half as handy. Can't wait to see the final product in the following weeks.
