240G Upgrade

After my probe became dislodged in my 125 gallons sump in August, my controller kept my heater on over a weekend on my office tank. I lost all but a few corals , my 2 RBTA's and 3 fish. I decided at that point to do an upgrade as if my tank was full of corals again, it would be a lot more work.

I decided on a 8×2×2 240 gallon system. The length was as long as I could fit comfortablely in the space, and I have shorter arms, so didn't want to go to deep or high. I wanted a taller stand as we get kids in the office and with the current set up bring on a 2.5 foot stand, they were constantly hitting the tank. My new stand would be 4 feet high due to this.

I had just switched my lighting from DIY LED'S on my 125 due to the color of the bulbs changing. I had had a Radion from a RSM130 that I had taken down earlier in the year, so added 1 more and 2 48 inch 2 bulb T5 fixtures. I bought 2 more Radion's for the upgrade to the 240 gallon system. I would have prefered Kessil's due to cost, but didn't want to mix different types of LED'S or waste my current Radion's.

I picked up 2 Jabea's for the upgrade and may add more in the future depending on how the flow looks with my old Jabea and Tunze.

I went with a beanie animal overflow. I managed to get it tuned in fairly quickly and it is silent. The old system was set up as a single drain which was loud and really sucked in the office.

I just clamped my plywood over the bottom for now to prevent people from gaining access to the electrical in the center. I'll be doing some work on getting the canopy partially finished and lights installed this weekend.

You might be able to make out my eel plumbing in some of my pictures. I have a store that will bring in zebra eels for me and hold them for a month to get them eating properly. I plan on getting a pair for this system.

On the advise of the tank builder, the stand is anchored to studs in the wall to help prevent the tank from tipping over due to such a tall stand.

Going to try a school of 9 chromis with multiple feedings per day to see if they will stay alive.

I also managed to find a firefish pair. I love those fish!

Hey man, how's the tank coming along? Any updated FTS? Would love to see the anemone in there :)

Here is an early morning full tank shot with my lights in the dawn mode and a few pictures of some recent items I've added.

I've also recently got a zebra eel, but it is hiding mainly. I've lined up to get a 2nd one, and also offered a snowflake eel, but concerned that it would eat all my fish eventually.
