25 gal encrusting monti only, kalk and cal reactor?

so i am in the process of cycling my 25 gal display with a 8 gal (actual water volume) sump.

i have a aquamaxx nano reactor that i can hook up, but wondering if i should go with a mrc nilsen reactor as well?

i really dont want to dose and i want to set it up from the get go and not worry.

all is going to be montired by a neptune aqua controller. im all about just getting it right from the get go, but doing reading i see some say its pointles or even dangerours to go with a calc reator or its enough to go with a nilsen kalk reactor, and finally they are used together to compliment one another.

i know montis tend to be less demanding them acros, so i am hoping for some insight into what others think about using one or the.other or both or none at all.

any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

I would say to use them in conjunction with one another to get the best of both worlds. Cal rx will lower ph while kalk will help to keep it up. Since you have a controller youll be able to make that work surprisingly well from what ive seen and read. I would take a look at reefnoobs setup in his thread on page 15. Its got to be the ultimate in kalk dosing, youll just have to use an ato preferably two, one for the kalk and one for normal water.

Also, montis may be less demanding water wise but they EAT cal and alk. Most of my demand I would say is due to a large cap thats growing at a pace I can literally watch!

Interesting...I think monti caps are different then encrusting as encrusting tend to be super slow growers by nature, unlike caps, like you mentioned grow like crazy.
