25 Gallon, Nano? Really?!,,ok fine!-Tank Log

Not sure what to think

Not sure what to think

When the lights came on today I noticed this on my oldest inhabitant. I am not sure if it is some sort of injury or disease.
I posted it in the disease forum to help with an ID and possible treatment, but thought I would post it here also to see if any of you might know whats going on.

Eating and movement is normal, and all except for the spot seems fine.

Also,
I mentioned an unwelcomed aptasia found in the middle of the new zoo colony. I have used an old method I have had great sucess with ( using boiling water and an eye dropper ) and have killed the little devil where it stood. I am happy to say it seems all that was lost were 3 polyps surrounding the aptasia, but the rest of the colony is open and doing fine.

Chris,
No idea what could be causing the white spot on the blenny....my first thought is a bacterial infection of a break in the skin. I would keep an eye on it with the mindset of moving the fish if it gets worse and treating with broad spectrum antibiotics. However, if the fishes behavior and appetite are unchanged, I wouldnt worry to much.

You might want to post a thread here. ASk Terry Bartelme about it. Another great source of info re: fish diseases and treatments is a Mod there named Steve-S. He would most definately be able to tell you more.

it looks really nice, i'm glad i went with a 25gal too. Not to many people have them, but i love the height. IMO they look alot bigger than a 25gal The only thing i wish is that i went with a 250watt MH because of the 20" depth. Why don't you get a sump or a closed loop to hide all the stuff in the tank, thats the only thing that takes away from the tank, but over all i love it, the aquascaping it beautiful.

Thanks!

I plan on running at least a closed loop later on. I just could not do it right at the start. When I sold my 90, I had to split the money for the smaller tank/stand/skimmer/etc... you see here and the rest went to my other money burning hobby.

I almost kept one of my 250's for this tank, but honestly I am glad I went with the 175. Its really plenty of light for my plans, and there is no concern when it comes to heat. I think a 250 would push the comfort limits without a chiller. JMO

If you want to have LS in your tank, that starfish would need to be removed. Those are great sand sifters, but they'll eat every bit of life from the sand and you'll just have dead sand.

Once the sandbed is dead, you'll have nuisance algae issues on the surface of the sand.

Glad things are turning around for you.

Hmmmm my 150watt (280 total fixture) MH only makes my temp go up about 1-2 degrees, what does your MH make the tank go up to? Do you have a pic of your lighting set up, i'm just cerious to that you have :D By the way you have inspired me to reaquascape my tank :D Thats my project for tomarrow lmao

Honestly Marc,
I am not concerned about the sand being "live" thats why I only made it about 1-2" in depth. I used to run my old 75 gallon like this many years ago, with a similar type of starfish and never really had algae problems on the SB. As with all things though, I know this can quickly change and will monitor it regularly. If I see a problem as the tank matures I will make the needed adjustments. As always though your advice is always appreciated!:)

Amber,
I do not have a picture of the inside of the canopy yet. I dont want anyone to see it up close till I finish the trim on it. I will hopefully finish it this weekend and then I will be happy to show it too you.

As far as temp, as it is now:

High-80
Low-79, so I am satisfied with the minor change

I only run my Halide for 6 hours total, I stopped burning the halides for 8+ hours a couple years ago and noticed a significant increase in coloration of many of my corals.

I am honored you were inspired by my tank to re-aquascape yours, I hope it comes out great when your finished ( great meaning making the owner happy, which is sometimes hard to do!:D )

yeah i'm probally going to be fighting with it for a few hours, trying to get it just right. I'm sure you know how frustrating it is trying to get it right, lol I was going for a valley effect in the middle, but i think you tank has changed my mind. Here is what my 25 has right now fo aquascaping (don't mind the green rock  that was baserock i just bought and i guess it's going through an algae cycle unitill the coraline takes over)

I like it Amber,
But as I know all too well, it only matters if YOU like it! I have finally come to a point in reefing that I realize I might not like the aquascape at first, but typically it grows on me. This was one of the few times I liked it from the start!

I mentioned above that the picture of the Yellow Fiji Leather was taken shortly after it was introduced and that it has opened up completely now. Here is a picture of it from tonight so you can see it in all its glory!

I really like this coral a lot, and am so glad I finally found one worth getting.

Thanks Amber & Mary!

I am on the fence when it comes to softies. I do really like zoos & rics, but aside from them I am VERY picky when it comes to them in general. I fell in love with this Yellow Fiji, and couldnt pass on it. I had wanted one since I first saw one years ago, and now I have a really healthy one.

I got two nice frags today, a zoo frag that was called Fire & Ice ( for its beautiful coloration ) and a really nice slimer frag.

Give them a day or so to adjust and I will post a picture of them.

BTW-Amber,
How did the re-aquascaping come along? Did you do it yet? I want to see once you have it done please!;)

Lookin good leviathin! :D

amber- how your new light working out? i remember reading in another thread---a while back --- that you were gettin it. I saw your pic and it looks great! :D
