25 gallon rebuild...

I have had this 25 gallon tank for a little over 6 years now... it has been through a lot... a few hurricanes (loosing power for a few weeks at a time... ),a few moves from college to home, and mass equipment failuer... hehehee... and during all this it has been broken down a few times and rebuilt.. well now that it looks like I'm not going to be moving for a while now and I bought a generator... so, I figured it was time to rebuild... I started the tank again about 6 months ago and its jsut been live rock since... I'm in the process of looking to get some frags now, but I figure I'd post some pics and see what other 25 gallons are out there...

Ignore the ghost reflection of me in the background.. hehee... and that stand is really old.. saltwater doesnt do good for cheap wood stands either..

Looks good what sort of lighting you got, and what livestock you planning on keeping in their. At least if you have any power outages you will have the generator.

I am currently running 2x55watt PCs... It has done me good in the past.. I wouldnt mind uping the light a little, but money is definitely an issue right now... at its prime.. I use to have a lot of differnet polyps, mushrooms, and a few other type of branch looking corals... sorry about not knowing the names... it has been about 4 years since I've had corals in the tank... I use to have a pair of clowns and a firefish... that seems to be about all that tank can handle...

Since the previous pics, I added about 15 more #s of live rock... I also have a LifeReef overflow on the way, 5-stage RO/DI unit hooked up, lunar lights on the way, and I'm building a sump to hold all my equipment... I've also added about 1.5 doz various snails, about 1.5 doz various hermits, and 2 peperment shrimp... I'll post some more pics soon...

nothing really looks that different... but I like to add more pics as to track my tanks progress...

so far this RO/DI unit from purelyh2o has worked great... I'm stil ltrying to get my storage container setup.. I added a valve at the bottom of the container so I can get water without having to use buckets or a powerhead... well it keeps wanting to leak, but I tried sealing it with silicon today and we'll see tomorrow after it completely cures...

Here are some pics of my tank with the new sump and lifereef overflow up and running... I still want to do something different with my return, but right now I jsut have a simple j-tube setup...My skimmer has stopped working since I installed the new sump.. I dont know if adding about 7 gallons to the system, jsut diluted anything that would have been skimmed out.. or if the system jsut has to rebalance with all the new equipment being added... I'll give it a few more days and we'll see what happens...

im in college right now, and im considering a setup similar to yours, could you possibly give a cost break down on your setup?

Lets see... I can give you a cost of the main equipment...

$130.00 - Skimmer
$250.00 - Overflow and return pump (plus plumbing materials)
$ 65.00 - AHSupply 2x55watt PC lighting kit...
$ 25.00 - Powersweep powerhead

Other than all that... the rest of the cost if for LR, LS, salt, dosing additives, and I'm sure theres a ton of other misc. stuff that I am forgetting... I've had the actual tank and stand for years, along with most of the equipment, except the RO/DI filter and newly added sump system.... good luck and let me know if you have any other questions...

everything looks great!
what size tank is your sump?

The sump is a standard 10 gallon AGA tank... here's a link to some comments when I was designing the sump...

These clams are awesome and have been doing great... I've had them for a little over a month now...

nice setup. I also have a 25. I have the 2x65 coralife lunar aqualight on mine and it seems to handle whatever I put in the tank.

How did you fit a 10gal under your tank? Did you have to modify the stand or did AGA change their stands over the years. I haven't been able to get a 10gal under mine.

The stand is almost 6 years old... maybe even a little older than that... I can fit the 10 gallon tank under there perfectly... theres probably only about an inch of space on both sides once its in there... you may need to try to put the sump in from the back... that may make it easier...

here's a few more pics I took tonight... the glass really needs to be cleaned.. so try not to look at that... heheheee
