Well I didn't jump on the sock group buy because I thought 25 micron bags was too restrictive and prefered the 100 micron i've been using. Well I asked Jen if they were any left over and she was nice enough to sell me a few. Well over the years i've been wrong. Here's the proof..

100 Micron-

black on the outside..

I ran both for 2 days each. I'm sold. 25 micron fo'life.

i keep both incase i might not be able to change (out of town or something) the 100 micron will start to overflow in about 2 days max...

Wow nice pics. Me too I have one 100 microns and I use it as a spare. But I love the 25 microns.

Thanks for that info mlivvy did no that, been using the 100's myself. Got a few 25's in the tank buy thanks Wes they are in the wash as I type. :)

Okay so are they 25 micron or 200 micron?? I'm getting conflicting reports!!

bcobra, thanks for the bump!!!!

The reason the one is black on the inside and white on the outside is because it stops more stuff on the inside of the sock than the other. The 100 micron lets more junk through and discolors the outside as well as the inside!

where would one find more of these 25 micron socks? Been looking for them.

I am guessing you have to get the aquarium ones and not the 1/2 the price bio-diesel ones?

give them a call. http://www.ichthythings.com/ i'm sure they'll ship them out to you.

If you use 25 micron socks, you must change them regularly or your NO3 will go up from all the detritus breaking down in the sock.

Whats the difference between it breaking down in your tank with a 200 micron sock, and it breaking down in the sock with a 25 micron sock?

^^^^ Very true. Three times a week for me. I use two at a time, and have about a dozen or so to turn over. 25 micron only.

Your skimmer, sandbed, snails, crabs, etc...will have access to more of it if you have larger micron bags.
I use two 25 micron bags and change them daily.

mlivvy, a feller in another thread thought they were 200, so I was just making sure before I recommended this thread to someone who was asking about mechanical filtration. :)

This is good info.
I am going to try and find the 25 socks.

Question, I know they are machine washable. But what system do people use for storing them untill wash day. The way I see it you don't want to wash them with other clothes ( or do you) and you don't want to wash just one or two socks. But if you just put them aside they will dry and clump up. And storing them in water would smell bad (I figure).

Also how do you mount them in the sump?
Thanks
