250 gallon solar reef

anyone ever done a 3d animated gif of their tank?

i made this one the other night by accident - noticed the effect when comparing two pics of the tank under leds only

No ... no ... I'm not getting it .. Wait a minute. Let me put my red/blue glasses on...

Ah, yes, that's much better. I can see the effect you're going for, now.

Yes, I've had mornings like that. Funny thing is, I can never remember the night before that led up to a morning after like these ones.

yep, i snapped one and then moved the camera (on tripod) about 2" to the left and put the center of the focus on the exact same spot as the first pic. then, on the computer, crop carefully to make the two images match as closely as possible. once they are the same size, you just open them as layers in gimp (or another photo editing software) and make it into an animated gif with the fastest frame switch possible. i did about 10 pairs of images in full light and these are the only two that worked, so don't get frustrated if it doesn't work the first time.

HA.... YES!!

Someone else that enjoys it!

Thanks for stealing it... do not stop.. Do a few more.

I am thinking of taking a few of my corals/polpys and doing the same thing over about a month.

Have not figured which one I want to do it with yet though.

VERY NICE btw.

thanks everyone

this rbta changes coloration quite a bit throughout the year in response to the variation in the amount of sunlight that shines on it.

i have had a gopro camera for a while, but neither of our computers were able to process the video well. finally picked up a mac and this is my first try with the gopro. pardon the algae bloom, need to get some more cleanup crew to replace the ones the tusk ate :)

That's pretty impressive for a first timer! Of course, having a great tank always helps.

yeah, most of the stills are taken late morning or early evening when there is very little sunlight coming in the solar tubes. this video was around lunch time when the sun has started to wash the colors out a bit. in the middle of the afternoon, the corals have very little color because of the color and intensity of the sunlight.
