250 Gallon Starphire SPS tank

I'm interested in any images posted. Always and forever. ;) Looks good.

You could always move that montipora, if you have to.

Whatever happened with that montipora that wasn't extending polyps? The yellow one...

It is still alive, I can just slightly see the polyp's purple fringes, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I got a chisel today!:hammer: I wanted to kill my acro crab in my tri-color. I went a little nuts. And....I did not kill the 1/4 inch crab with the 2 foot 4 lb chisel!

Looking good Ben! Nice growth on the corals! I would like some zoos from you! Hint Hint......

That would be expensive Angel food, don't you think?

I hope to start fragging my zoos shortly, I will be in touch with you.

I don't have my halide set-up in my sump yet.:( When I do I will have all sorts of things down there growing. I should be able to get you something before that time comes though.

I have to get my butt in gear and finish my tank off so I CAN get into the fragging action.

Melev I have a question.

My sump is 72 x 16 x 16 half full. I was thinking of making it 8 inches wider, to 24 inches. How much cooling do you think the added surface area would give me? I know you enlarged your sump and noticed a marked difference in temp. Did you double your sump, or add about 50% to its size? I am thinking of doing this to lower my average temp, hopefully my fish will live longer then. My fish are all soo active they splash water out of the tank and do all sorts of wierd stuff, like blowing bubbles, swimming upside down on purpose, they are not sick, just mentally retarted!

Increasing the surface area will allow your tank to cool more, and evaporation will be higher. My old glass sump was 18" wide, and this one is 34" wide. It was 48" long and this one is 60" long.

I switched skimmers, from the single Mag 12 to two Sedra 5000 pumps.

I switched my return pump from an Ampmaster 4700 to a Little Giant.

From these changes, the tank cooled so much I don't even run a fan any longer, and the heaters come on daily. Unbelievable. The tank ranges from 79F to 80.5F with the lights on all day.

Hey, speaking of questions, you've not mentioned your rolling light rack since it was installed. Anything interesting to share, or perhaps modifications that you found necessary? Did it start to make any noise that might become annoying, or has it acted up in any way?

Sounds like a lot of changes. Also your sump area increased a lot more then mine would.:( I might make the change just to give me a larger fuge area. For BB guys a fuge is a frag grow out area.;) I am sure Bomber would like that.:D I hope this would give me a slight drop in temp but probably not as much as yours. In interests of electrical efficiency maybe you should drop your temp a degree or two?

My light rack works very well. It developed a slight vibration noise that was cured by tightening one of the screws holding the rail in place. I wish I could comment on growth, it appears to be good. The fact is a have not had an SPS tank long enough to know any better. I would strongly recommend this system to anybody serious about corals, and serious about saving money.
