does anybody use these bulbs? what are your opinion on them? are they too blue? did you notice a difference in the growth of corals? im loaded full of questions..
thanks
Gerald

Everything I've heard says it's very blue, great colors, but little/no growth when used exclusively. Most people using them have them mixed in with lower kelvin bulbs.

i have seen em. Again very blue and as jeff mentioned low par for a 250.Thats why i went with the hamilton 14k's

I've used 20 radiums(400 watts) and yes they are blue but really pretty. They do loose some of their punch after about 4-6months IME.
Now I run xm's 20 400 watts x 3 ( BTW on a run of the mill ballasts)
And my corals are growing consistently, the also seem to last longer than the Radiums(just an observation)

There's no noted difference in my experience in terms of growth between Radiums and XM's.
Off course 10-vs 20 yes but i don't want to be trimming monthly LOL

Hey Gerald,

I use 20k SE Radiums and Love them - My opinion on them is that they are the perfect color!

Here is my experience with them:
First of all I run them on HQI magnetic PFO ballast wit No supplementation, and would probably stay clear of useing them on Electronic ballast since they pack less of a punch PAR wise.

At first the bulbs run fairly blue but once they burn in they look Awesome.

I have noticed good growth with them but keep in mind I had almost all my sps near the water surface - since they don't have a very high par the deeper in the tank the less growth.

Colors are briliant - they bring out a lot of the blues, Green, Purples, Yellows, and Oranges, and Pinks. And do not need any actinic supplementation to get the flourecent colors to "pop"

The word out there is that the bulbs don't last very long at all - I guess I've proved this theory wrong I have 2 of them running strong at three years old and they look just as bright as my 14k DE pheonix on the same ballast. I haven't measured the light output but they are still burning bright

I am going to try some 400W Radiums soon, so we'll see if there is any diffrence with em.

MY opinion, GREAT bulb - I'd give em a try :)

Take care,

-Jc

I bought Joe's 14k 250w SE MH Hamilton Bulbs....
The color is awesome, bright, and definately not too blue.
I feel with the 14k's the colors pop out better!
