hey i have a 24g aquapod and i have a 250w pendant just gonna be getting the ballast....the pendant is 9" off the water surface....if i was to do primarily rics/yumas would it be overkill for them? Its the coralvue dimmable ballast and i will be running 20K+ ushio bulb....i can go sps on top and rics all on the bottom, but would a full out ric tank be doable without them being ****ed from the light output??

thanks in advance!

Your Floridas will be happy, but your going to have problems with all but the most healthy and well adjusted of Yumas you could ever come across. Be very careful and maybe adjust the height to more like 20 inches or so at least with such a small tank.

I agree with T.....Your yumas will be very unhappy unless you shade them well from the direct lighting.....Over a period of a month or more you might be able to bring them out into brighter lighting but even then yumas can melt at a drop of a hat....

rics would be fine though....most lfs here are under halides yumas and rics etc....so yeah i could be lucky and with it being a 250w 20K+ it wont be over kill like a 10k...so hopefully it all goes well i will post some pics once everything is going

not to hijack your thread but i have a few shrooms and rics in my 220 tall with 250 wt mh over it. they should be fine or not?

With the height of the tank I would say you should be fine, yumas placed on the bottom and floridas any where you want them....

The problems with yumas is usually ones shipped overnight from the vendor. All the ones I have bought local are doing great from the get go.....Never had issues with Floridas local or shipped.

yeah everything would be local lately the yuma, ric, and actinodiscus ship, emts have been unreal....almost all the rics have been multicolor...i havent got any yumas lately but they have been unreal, and actinodiscus are on and above the level of divers den so yeah and everyone here has them under halides so not that scared but a single halide over like shallow 90-120g tank so yeah once i got the ballast hooked up to the pendant i will snap some pics

I have mine under halides as well 250w 14k SE Hamilton, Floridas are all under direct lighting bottom to half way up on my 60g cube. All of my yumas for the most part have been acclimated over time to the lighting and all but one right now are in indirect lighting or direct lighting low in the tank.....

I have one that is unreal waiting in the shadows right now to be revealed....But with what they cost I will wait till its shows signs of being ready.

There has been alot of ultra rics even on-line that are killer, seems the collectors have found some sweet spots for them as of late.

I have a 250w metal halide with a 14k light. but i have a 40 gallon breeder, double the tank size. i do not have yumas, but florida ricordea's. and they do just fine. i actually fragged the ric from one into 3 seperate ones with 100% success rate. take care of your tank and it will take care of you
