250W HQI vs. 400W in a successful SPS tank

I'm not trying to settle the 250W vs 400W argument with this poll. I'm simply trying to decide whether to keep my current 250W HQI setup or switch to 400W. If you're running a successful SPS tank I'd like to know which you're using. I consider my tank successful but I always worry about placing corals at the bottom of the tank (24" depth) and figure that having more light would remove that concern and now that I have a chiller I don't have to worry about the increased heat load.

So, a simple poll to help me decide where to put my cash.

When I was using a 400w...my coral growth exploded and my colors really came out. I actually downgraded to 250w because I only have 65g and the growth would be too fast. (too much maintanence). What kind of reflectors are you using? If you want more light at the bottom, get some large lumenbrights.

with a depth of 24in 250w should be plenty .

The more light i put on top of them the better my corals do. I have kept sps under leds, incandescent, vho's, 250's 175's 400s mixed and blasted. If you can keep up with temp and the light bill then more light is more fun. More energy, more algae, more richer deeper colors. Right now i run 6x 400 over the main tank which is 60x48x24 inches deep. With 400s i get good color anywhere in the tank. Dont think 250s would reach down to the bottom so effectively.

No wonder our economy is going in the crapper. Get out there and spend some money. Besides, everyone knows that one of the guiding principles of this hobby is overspending on things that you don't need, will rarely use, and probably won't work as advertised. BTW...I'm not saying I'm dissatisfied but another guiding principle in the hobby is always thinking about the next upgrade or improvement.
