265G Project

I took a look, I'm not sure I have the time these days to build myself a DIY light. Two kids under two take up a lot of time :D

I think I'm going to go with a premade fixture. The Mitras look amazing but I'm not sure I can swing the cost of at least three of them.

hey i would build it and send it to you if you pay all the shipping! it would take about 2 hours...and its fun!

i would highly recommend this company, what you get in terms of quality from what i read is unbelievable and if you build it your self you will easily be able to troubleshoot it

i could also point you to a few good soldering tutorials (not in a insulting way) odds are you know how to do this stuff already

:) good luck

I'm lookiing forward to seeing this come back together.

I can tell you that I switched to LEDs and it is different. Good but different. For a while, in my old tank, I ran MH & LED and it was the BEST!

I am now running Orpheks and Kessil and it is OK but I am rethinking squeezing an MH back in the canopy.

Heat is the only negative issue for me.

I just stumbled through you build and was wondering if you had gotten back into reefing and if so where are you at?

The tank is sitting empty for now.

I want to get back into it but my want for new lights is holding me up. I was never happy with what I had and I can't afford to replace them at the moment. I was thinking of doing a Fish Only set-up with some cheap lights but I know I won't be happy with that.

Some day it will come back to life.

I have a Marineland 220, same depth and I have three of the Evergrow 120's over it. They are the once with red and green LED's. Coral are growing well and have great color. The lights are about 12" off the top of the tank . I will try to post a picture. Y might want to put an extra light over a 7 foot tank. The price of these are good and I had two of them over a 92 corner for over a year. So those two lights are about a year and a half old and no issues. Check Ebay for them.

Some pictures would be great thanks.

I spent some time with it last night, cleaned out all the dust that's collected in it for the last year plus. Went through some of my equipment, found out the kids ( I think ) broke my skimmer, it's broken clean at the joint where the neck attaches to the body, probably repairable.

Read your whole thread, lots of ups and downs but you seem to take them with stride, good setbacks but better progress. that being said, i have been running AI Hydras on my 180 and have been successfully growing sps since day 1, I just added a Hydra 26 and absolutely love it. at 90 watts when running at full power (never hits full so only uses about 65 watts). i recommend checking them out, if you go with pillars again, the 26 will be fine, if you go very low the way you originally did it then look at the 52.

The ups and downs are part of the game when it comes to reefing, no sense getting all freaked out when something doesn't go right. I'll probably cut all the pluming off it this weekend, I wasn't happy with a few things so I'll need to plumb it again when I get back to work on it.

I'm not completely out of the game, I do have a 20 gallon with a single clown in it upstairs, the kids love to stand and watch it swim around.

I do have one question, I will be plumbing my closed loops differently this time. Two darts will feed the 4 1" bulk heads in the bottom and one dart will feed two of the upper 1" bulk heads on the top. The two front upper holes won't be used.

Is 2ea 2" bulk heads enough to feed 3 Darts?

Probably.

As someone whose done this id recommend some good quality valves for adjustments. Emphasis on good quality.

Yeah, the one I was running as a return was finiky. I was always messing with the gate valves and the pump valve to get it right.

With the closed loops I image I'll just let them run wide open.

I like to dial mine back after adding smaller and weaker fish who are fresh from QT. Like gradual strength training for fish.
