270 Gal Tank

Hello Roger,
We've spoken before about the new tank I'm setting up. We are at final design stages and I want to be sure all is OK.

The tank is 84 x 31 x 25 H. you recommended:
1 wavebox mounted center on the short side pointing down the length of the tank
2 6000's mounted on the back wall pointing towards the center front - as shown in picture.

After reading the wavebox manual I have a few questions:
1. It recommends corner mounting. Is this an issue?
2. The tank will be 25" high with 1/2" thick, 2" wide bracing around the top and bottom perimeter, so ther will be a lip. Also will have 2, 8" cross braces.

To be on the safe side I am planning on mounting the box 1 1/2" down from the exterior tank top (1" from the bottom of the bracing lip).
3. The overflow has been reconfigured as a single, 18" long and 7" deep, centered on the back wall.

4. The overflow will be 20" high with 2" high teeth.

So the top of the box is at 23 1/2".
The box sits so 1" is always above water level (22 1/2")

Is this set up OK or should the overflow be higher? Assuming a 1.8" wave (22.5 - 1.8) =20.7 and the overflow being at the low point, should the overflow top be 21" ???

Thanks for your help!

As for the Streams- refresh my memory on what corals you will be keeping.

Corner mounting is not necessary- in fact on wider tanks it is better to center it.

OK, I am overwhelmed with numbers but sounds OK, I would want roughly 2" from the water surface to the top trim of the tank. Sounds like you have 2.5" so I see no problems.

Mixed - soft on one end, sps on the other and zoas in the middle.

On the numbers:
1. Should the top of the wavebox be 1 " above the highest, theoretical wave value?
2. Should the top of the overflow be at dead calm, highest wave value or somewhere in between.
Thanks,

I think I called the Streams correctly for those corals.

The wavebox has a blue squiggly line on the front and that is the water line when you install it, it is about 1" above the static waterline, before you turn it on.

As long as the overflow is not so high water will come out of the tank in a wave it should be OK. That is really all that matters- enough distance to prevent the wave from spilling over the edge.
