29 gallon build

I was going to wait to post this once I was further ahead on the setup but here goes.

This is for Eric and Pedro that love the build threads. :D

This is going to be a slow build since I'm still focusing more on the 72 gallon.

This is a 29 gallon that was given to me. Came with two huge goldfish that were taken to an LFS. It has two HOB filters which will eventually go away. The plan is to make it a FOWLR. Will house either a dwarf lion fish, or a small eel, or maybe a pair of nice clowns.

I did a 10 gallon water change on the 72 gallon and siphoned out all the detritus that built up in the fuge. That was enough to kick the cycle. I put in a Koralia 4 in there to move the water. I'll probably be using two K2. I threw in a small piece of LR in there too. I haven't added more since I'm debating whether to use Marco rock or LR. I have not added sand yet either. As you can see the progress is very minimal right now. This tank is going in the office room.

I think I'm going to pull a "Pedro" on this tank and go all HOB. I think I'm going to do a HOB fuge and a skimmer for filtration.

I did a bit of aquascaping on the other tank and pulled out some rock. I added it to this tank to continue the cycling process. Will post pics later.

In regards to sand, I was thinking of going with black sand but after reading tons of bad reviews and also hearing from Steve and Steffen, I think I'm going to go with regular sand. Will probably just go with Caribsea Aragonite.

On the light, the plan is a FOWLR tank BUT knowing myself I might want to add some coral down the road so I'm still debating on that. Decisions decisions!! Lol

Any and all comments/suggestions are welcome.

hells yeah, haha .still got the medium refugium available. although ill use it in the future, it can be yours for the right price. also the light i was using for it. and yeah i see people who put sumps on small tanks. crazy ! haha

well the tank its the size of an average sump so why not go HOB, my tank was HOB for a whole year. It should work out fine.

yeah HOB's rule, even eric swears by them. see im turning you all. haha. only reason steffen hates them is cuz he had a seaclone, or coralife or the one from petsmart.

I actually still have those hanging on the 40 gallon breeder. They have been there forever. What a terrible skimmer they are. Still in sump skimmers all they way!!!!

Steffen Sparks
Even had the urchin model for the Remora skimmer. lol

hey, hey dont bring me into this, i have had success with both of these but I contribute the success to having octopus skimmers. I have used manny diffrent skimmers since 2003 bi I have to say that octopus skimmers have been the easyest to use

haha i know, only other skimmers i have had is the remoras, id say my new one is about 50x better. not exaggerating .

I've been looking at DIY HOB fuges. Anyone know where I can find Weldon? I know I need the #4. Although #16 would be better since it's thicker.

Neither Lowes nor Home Depot have it.

I bought some #16 awhile back from Baker Glass on Montana. I know they stopped selling plexiglas to the general public but may still have the glue. If not I have a couple tube and you are welcome to use what you need. :)

um, but i have one thats made already. haha. let me know.

I kinda want to try a DIY. If I fail, I'll probably go with yours. PM me a price just so I know.

I called Bakers Glass. They don't carry it. They referred me to Regal Piedmont Plastics on Pellicano. They have Weldon 16. They sell for $9.25 for 5 oz. Minimum 25 bottles. Lol. Don't think I need that much.
