29 gallon sps tank.

just wondering if anyone has a 29 gallon sps tank. im thinking of doing this in the future but not sure how succesful i would be. also list equipments and lights, etc.

I have a 20 gallon sps tank that I set up last november. I've gotten frags from local hobbyists-mostly hardier sps varieties- and after some tinkering I am starting to get some growth and encrusting onto the rocks. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have a respectable sps tank in a 29.

I have one, but it's still just a collection of colored sticks stuck to rocks. I'm embarrassed to post it after those first two tanks.

I recently upgraded from a 29 to a 40 breeder. I had a 10 gallon sump, 175 watt 10k metal halide and (2) 55 watt PC actinics. For a skimmer I had an AquaC Urchin Pro that worked really well. With all the lights I also ran 4 CPU fans in the canopy and a 1/10 HP chiller. It all ran quite well for 8 years.

i ordered a 175w light for my 29 gal and it should be coming anytime now. i dont have a skimmer though. im not planning on doing the whole tank with sps, i also want some lps and softies, would it be okay without a skimmer or should i get one ? i also noticed that u guys have sumps/fuge attached to ur tanks. will i also need one or is it just an add on for extra water?

I would use a skimmer even if it is only for aeration. You may be able to get by with doing weekly water changes, but there are too many positives for using a skimmer to not use one.

A sump would help but it is by no means a requirement. I've seen a lot of tanks under 30 gallons work very well without a sump. You may want to think about one if you start having heat problems with your MH setup.
