29 gallon sump question

I initially posted this in DIY but didnt get any bites...so I will try here

I am trying to plan my sump for the 29 gallon glass tank I bought to be run in the stand of my 57 gallon DT. The tank is drilled in the middle

Would the flow only through the media reactor be enough for a refugium section?

Would one of these designs be superior, and why?

Any comments appreciated

Either will work; depends on preferences. What else are you planning on having in your sump? You probably need only 1 bubble trap, if that.

Thanks for the reply. I plan to keep macroalgae, rubble and possibly sand in the refugium section. A heater. ATO/dosing pump with output into the return section.
I guess I have read about people having problems with bubbles getting to the return pump, thus the design. Maybe those people are the exception to the rule?

Would flow the a media reactor be sufficient to supply the refugium section? I have the Nextreef MR1
