29 sump help!!

Bought a 29 gallon tank and converted it into a sump, I had it planned out for a Asm g1x skimmer. So I bought a skimmer from CL he said it was one. It's not! It's a G3, it didn't fit in my skimmer section I built. I just cut out the baffle and was wondering if I could just run a 2 chamber sump with some live rock in there? Do I need to have a baffle between the skimmer and return section? The tank is 30" and if I did a 3 section sump my skimmer part would be 14" and about 6" for the fuge, then a bubble trap then a 8" return. The baffles are 13" 12" 11" tall in order. I'm wondering if my "fuge" section at 12" deep and 6" wide would be a detritus trap and wouldn't work proper. Right now I'm only planning to put some rubble in there

So the baffle would be installed right next to the pump. It will give me 6" of room! Leave it as is or put the baffle in?

how much water does you skimmer need to run in?? from other opinions not of my own..you don't have to have the baffles it just helps take out the small baffles that the skimmer creates

If you have a good ATO to top off water in the return/skimmer section, you should be fine. If no ATO, then you need a baffle to separate the two.
