29g system with no sump or skimmer

I've read through a couple of threads about systems around with no skimmer used or sumps and the people that have had success with this.

This will be in a new 29g tank. The only fish that will be in here MIGHT be 2 false percs.

Can someone direct me to what's needed to set something like this up?

I agree with BK, as long as you maintain your water quality and keep the bio-load to a minimum the tank will do just fine. I used to have a 20 gallon reef but it had a 5.5 gallon sump and protein skimmer - just depends on how you want to run your system.

I've seen my LFS do it w/ small 5-10g tanks that sit on the counter near the cash register and they look absolutely awesome. The only thing they had in the tank was a micro-size power head for water movement. Other than that, besides not having a skimmer or sump, it didn't even have a filter. But, lots & lots of frequent small H2O changes is the key.

Yeah, i would say 10% every week. With this type of setup it's going to be all water changes. What do you plan to keep in it. i would keep the bioload to a minimum. 3 fish tops. Good luck! Can't wait to see pics!:)

I'd want to keep soft corals, shrooms, etc. As far as fish, 2 false percs.

Again, this will be in my office so I wanted to keep it simple.
Or do you think I'd be better off doing a hang on back skimmer?

ive done 29 gal skimmerless/sumpless, 130 watt pc lights.. i kept 2 false percs in it.. about 35 lbs of live rock.. kept some softies in there just fine.. i still just did monthly water changes w/o any problems... (some ppl change their water too often make their water parameters unstable.. i see my live stock do better with less frequent water changes, if all parameters are good i even go 2 months w/o changing water if I don't want to)

i just removed the skimmer( aka p.o.s. fisson nano) and plan on keeping it running w/o one. i have a 20g with 35lb LR and 40lb LS. but i doo have 2 powerheads and a penguin HOB filter

I have a 29 gallon eclipse, with hood. I use the 20w marine glo/20watt actinic lights, removed bio-wheel after 2 years, have carbon filter which I clean weekly, change monthly. Maxijet1200 power head,40lb. Live Rock. Just replaced my live sand, and everything is thriving very nicely. Softies, sinularia, 2 percs, serpent star and cleaner crew. I keep a weekly batch of salt water for small daily water changes(4 to 5 gallons )
I would like to add a small fuge.
I keep it simple and read here on RC every day .
Good luck!

A HOB skimmer would be great! As to what kind, I only know of a few HOB PS's. I would go with an AquaC Remora. I've heard good things about them. A good person to ask would be Melev. He's used all kinds of HOB's.

If you end up going the AquaC route, MarineDepot carries them and i'm sure some others do to.

Like I said before good luck and I look forward to some pics in the future.:)
