There's also http://MJmods.com where there's an entire section with instruction of how to do this. You can order all your parts there as well.

I am not making any more of these for a while since I just sold my house and am moving to Seattle in 3 to 4 weeks. Might pick up again later once I'm settled in Seattle though.

The mod takes a maxi-jet powerhead and changes it into a pump with very powerful flow. (No head - not for sump return, only for blowing water around inside the tank) Somewhat comparable to a Seio or a Tunze stream in the amount of flow, but far less $$. The lifespan is still a question. A couple of the MJ 400's have been going for over 2 years, but some people have complained that theirs have worn out in a matter of months. I just got a couple of MJ900's modded last week, and so far so good. Can't comment on lifespan yet. :D

Most of the problems have been from the previous method of using flex airline to connect the rigid tube/propeller assembly onto the magnet. It appears that after some time, the flex airline could stretch and give way causing the propeller to slide out further and gets caught in the stopper.

Most people are not using the flex airline method anymore and are instead drilling the magnet and gluing the rigid tube into it directly.
