I have decided to set up a 24gal Nano for the boys and Richard is sending part 1 tomorrow. The boys are excited to go to the airport and get the boxes.

This will be my second time ordering the package and will post pics as soon as I can..

Hey there Sun! It's been awhile.

You said the magic word...PICS! :) I'll bet the boys are so excited. Will they be doing the aquascaping?
 
yes the boys want to do the aquascapping..I am getting ready for the 35 min drive to Midway to pick up the first 2 boxes....

Just got the LS and LR put in the tank and it is still a little cloudy so I will post pics tomorrow. But I did find this little critter. He is very fast and has a shell. Also had a number of crabs, worms, some small snails and so far no clicking but that could change very quickly, Everything looks great did not smell anything bad but looking forward to what tomorrow will bring

Thanks Richard the boys had a blast helping put in the sand and looking at the rock. We will work on the aquascapping tomorrow.

You got the elusive dwarf slipper lobster....they are running around my system and like to hide in the sand tanks.....he won't get much bigger than that!

All the readings are good. But we have heard the clicks from another Mantis...The boys are helping with making the water and making sure the lights are only on for 5hrs a day.
 
They're probably in front of the tank the full 5 hours looking for stuff and "oooh'ing" and "ahhh'ing" over their discoveries. :) Will they be mostly responsible for regular water changes once the tank has cycled as well?
 
Readings update..

Amonia .25
Nitrates 0
Phosphates 0


So far so good. More pics tomorrow.

PS. In my original Nano one of the Cucumbers got into my rear chambers. I am not sure how this happened as my hood is closed. I am a little concerned that if something happens to him I could have a problem...
 
Take a look at some new pics. Tank is looking good I have not had a ammonia spike yet. I am still at 0-.25. On my first TBS tank I had a ammonia spike and had to do some work to get it down. I also figured out why I had such a rough start as I did not have the plug in my skimmer cup, so everything it was skimming out was going back into the tank.. Live and learn.


Also is there any issue with putting new LR in a tank that is 8months old?

As far as putting new rock in established tank, I'd have to say it depends on how much rock into how big a tank, and what's already in the tank. You'll get some die-off from the new rock, even as fresh as Richard's rock is (a mini-cycle if you will). If you have any critters that are sensitive to ammonia in the established tank, they might have some distress.
 
So my ammonia is still at 0 but my Phosphates spiked a little at about 1.5. Not sure why but I will do a water change and try to get it under control. Lights are on for 5 hrs a day and no feedings have occurred.

Phosphates still a little high. I was wondering if I could use Chem Pure Elite to help get rid of them or would it hurt the cycle?

I'd wait, most books I've read says phosphates just cause algae growth and slow growth in corals. Probably got some algae growth with the cycle that the clean up crew will devour.

I think I will wait until I get part 2 in the tank before I move forward with adding a chemicals to help remove the phosphates. Over the past 3 nights I have seen a hundred or so white specs attached the glass . They are alive but not sure what they are. My camera will not pic them up well..


Part 2 coming Saturday...Kids and I can't wait...

That's the nice thing about Richard's product...it does sustain itself with the life from the lowliest bacteria all the way to the awesome complex hitchhikers (stone crabs excluded...thy're cool to see on a reef but not in a reef tank)

They're even better to eat, with some of that delightful mustard sauce...ala Joe's Stone Crabs in MIami. :D :rollface:
 
Still not ammonia, I put in the new Sapphire skimmer yesterday and my phosphates are at .5PPM. I was shocked to see my dwarf slipper lobster up on the side of the tank this morning. It also looked like it was snowing in my tank this morning....


Also just got the email confirmation from Richard part 2 is in the air heading to Chicago...I am not telling the boys as they will drive me crazy for the next 5hrs.

The camera is charged and ready. I will post pics later....
