hoe is it going bro? MORE PICS! if its full
Waiting on the seal kit for my Dart and the rest of my Marco rock should be in today. Will get some aquascape process pics up later.
It's filled with RODI but dead until I get the seal kit for the pump.
You'll have to come by and see when its an official SW tank!

for sure just let me know would love to see it.. I still have some crush coral if you need any for your sump. LOL how not hoe he he :0

I redid the return line from the pump to the manifold using Spa Flex PVC; had to redo it anyway because I changed from a Barracuda to a Dart. This way, I'll be able to interchange the two pumps if needed. This also has made the pump and plumbing dead silent; Flex PVC really absorbs vibration quite well!

Received the rest of my rock yesterday and will start drilling some more today. This is just preliminary rock column test, I will epoxy a base together that will hold the rods, then the rods will be slipped through the drilled rock to the desired height. This way I can remove and install the top rock structures when needed. Okay, so this is my plan and theories, this might change though...

It's now a semi-official SW tank with a 1.010 salinity...at least enough salt to do hypo anyway :o

Yesterday and today was spent adjusting the plumbing; had the DT overflow and lost about 5-8 gallons before I got it shut down! My first returns were Durso with the air holes drilled in the tops; I plugged these with a piece of tubing when I converted to Herbie design. Without thinking I pulled these plugs out while it was running which changing the return flow from about 1800gph to probably over 3000gph, water instantly started poring over the sides, all over me and the carpet! :furious: I did think enough in my panic to wrap a blanket around the pump cord before grabbing it wet...

I did several simulated power outages and main drain blockage to test for overflow and finally got it dialed in good - no DT or sump overflow!
I then started dumping in the Reef Crystals; I would think salt changes the dynamics of water and wanted to further test it with SW flowing. I will let it run over night and see how things are in the morning.

This is the biggest body of water I have ever kept inside and has been rather intimidating from the beginning, especially after being Baptized by it yesterday. That is slowing going away and the confidence is growing each day. Hell, I'm already thinking about a 500g down the road...:headwally:

Doing more rock/drilling work tomorrow, pics will follow then.
:spin2:

Get rid of the pipe on the siphon side of your drain. That way every time you turn power off to the return pump, the water will totally drain from the overflow and the splashing water will clean out the overflow so you will have not buildup :) That is how I run mine. Also use a gate valve, not a ball valve for the return, will be easier to dial in the siphon drain. For the emergency drain, skip the derso like in the photo and simply run a pipe just above your desired water level like the photo shows to do the siphon. Cheapest, easiest, dead silent, anti-build up drain system on the planet. Mine has been running perfectly since September.

This is actually how I am set up, it looks like a Durso but without the air holes and the secondary or emergency standpipe is just above the surface. Yes, will order a gate valve this weekend, ball valve is difficult!
Thanks!

Sweet tank, unless you accidently drop a frag... :)

Thanks!
If I need to get to the bottom, I will hire a midget or a 5 year old that can hold his breath:hmm1:

Been busy with work no time or energy this week to do anything. Chris at Reeflow is sending me a bearing kit for my Dart as it started making noise. Once finished, it will have new seals, new impeller and bearings. Gotta love the Reeflow company! Them and Ecotech are my American company hero's as they stand by their products and help you in any way they can - top notch customer service rules!!
I will start again this weekend on the aquascape and hopefully will have it finished and in the water so I can get the cycle started (bag of raw table shrimp)

bag of raw table shrimp

I thought you only needed one shrimp? I can not even imagine the smell in my house if we put a bag in the 270g to cycle....
I will be sticking to 1 shrimp even if it takes longer I am sure I will still smell it...:hmm2:

By bag I mean media mesh bag, not a 1 pound bag.... I will do probably 3-4 shrimp in the bag for a good NH3 kick. I used 2 small sized shrimp for my 55g and that worked perfect with no fishy smell in the room.

Ok good to know...LOL I was sitting here contemplating the smell of them versus the waste of a good meal... still kinda laughing.
Can't wait to see your aquascape.

LOL
You think I'd actually waste a whole bag of shrimp? haha I bought a bag of scallops and planned on using 1/4 of the bag for RBTA and serpent star food, but they never made it to the tank...
