just be careful after they are in your tank as you have only a few more fish that can go into the tank after that as far as your bio load is concerned .six or seven small to medium fish for that size tank unless you have a huge sump and filtration system .

Just be aware that the male will need room to "run" when he's flashing and he'll skim the top of the water a lot when he's doing it. I had 3 females & a male McCosker's (sold to me as Carpenter's wrasses back then) in a 38 gallon, and when he got going he really had to stop fast to turn around in my tank. The width would probably be easier on him than the 12" I had, but he usually didn't use the width, he'd just turn in place. He didn't really have much room in my 3' tank to get up the speed he seemed to want.

Mine were McCosker's. They're so close that when I got mine I thought they were Carpenter's...that's what they were sold to me as. Mine were ok in my 38, but I kinda felt bad after seeing how much the male liked to run. This was back when they were $24.99 instead of $49.99 and they weren't common.

I never saw them get aggressive with my Diamond Watchman or my redheaded goby or blue coral-banded shrimp. I don't think I had anything else in there at the time. Pics were REALLY hard to get LOL. Fast-moving fish!
Even videos weren't easy, but I do have a couple, you can see him trying to get up speed. Most of the pics were captures from short vids taken with my camera.

Edit: I forgot. They slept in a mucus cocoon at night on the sand up against the rock. Also, when the male died, one of the females turned into a male.

From what I've seen, the McCoskers are usually more $ that a carpenters, and are similar, but IMO, better looking.
It's seems that everyone with any type of male wrasse, claim that it's a super male!... I don't think that it's an indication of 'poor' reefkeeping skills, to admit that it's NOT a super male. The fish will do what they want, you could end up with 3 males.

Sorry, I don't consider myself a wrasse expert, but I can tell you, of the 20+ wrasses in my 450g tank I started with 5 Haw. flames (1M and 4F). They soon became 2 full males and 2 changing into males, and now, I have 3 full males and 2 females. No guarantee of what I'll have next month, but they seem to get along fine. Also my Rosebanded, Naokoae, and Pylie males, all display for the female flames.
