I placed an order with Marine Depot on 12/26 and selected 3 day express shipping because the estimated delivery date on their site said 12/31. Yesterday I received my shipping confirmation email and it showed that my package was shipped out via UPS Ground and would deliver on the 4th. I immediately sent an email stating that I had paid for upgraded shipping and had not received the service I requested and paid for. Their response was simply that their automated warehouse system selects the best method of shipping for your package, and in this case, the automated system chose ground shipping because UPS is not delivering on the 31st.
The thing that bothers me is that I still paid for upgraded shipping even though I did not receive this service. I feel at the very least I should be refunded the difference in shipping services but have not been offered any compensation thus far. Downgrading shipping methods without the customers consent seems like an unfair business practice imo.
