3 Gal Pico... Not to Scale

Hello all just noticed your reef club and thought I would share my gf and I's tank. We live on LI, frequent Pets in Copaigue, and I am most definitely interested in joining your reef club.

So we currently have a 3 gal picotope and are in the process of upgrading it to have a AQ70 fuge.

I previously had to tear down my red sea max 130 because of money and time constraints due to school did not want the inhabitants to live in water with poor quality.

With our 3 gal we've been having issues recently... always walked a fine line between putting nutrients into the tank... Thought our cocoworm was undernourished and added some filter feeding food... long story short have been battling GHA since.

I recently caused a cycle because we tried to nuke some GHA by pouring H2O2 over the effected areas. (outside the tank) and It went well but I introduced rock that I soaked and left it in too long. Long story short the die off from the soaked rock caused an ammonia spike and a new cycle. Since we dont have a fish and only a few snails and green emerald, it was too much. 50% waterchange saved the day but I think killed the snails and crab... our salinity was low and spiked up high with our NSW due to the massive water change. All corals and the worm are intact.

Uploding some older photos and will post newer ones later. We have a very blue led bulb so the photos are either a 50/50 stock PC or natural light as the LED is not photogenic.

Thanks hope you enjoy!

Looks good. I'm sry for the problems with the pico but in small tanks small mistakes aren't so small lol. Do u know what fish or two u are looking at? I could see a goby/pistol combo working well with that aqua scape as they will really only have the front to dig.

Hey, thanks and yes things happen dramatically in this tank.

The scape is a bit different... I'll upload two recent shots to give you a better look.

The fish I think we will go with is a yellow clown goby... the fact they just hang out on top of corals/rocks will make us much happier and a lot less stressed out looking for the fish before heading to work in the AM... wondering if they passed away cause you can't find them.

Obviously all fish can jump, and I have never had a clown goby... but are they known jumpers? I like the rockscape but no background?

Ooo BTW, not sure which magazine it was but in the last few months one of the Coral/Reef Fish magazines had Nano Gobies as their main article... would be a good read if that's the direction you are going. They had lots of pictures and weird looking guys lol.

No background... gf likes the see thru, while I would prefer a black back. Going to try to craft a pvc overflow to put the AQ tube in to get rid of surface skim. I don't think clown gobies are jumpers... but I am not certain.

looks good, i am about to order a picotope too. what corals have you kept with the stock light & have not died?

Where did you get your live rock?

LR was from Pets in Copaigue.

Corals that have croaked were a monti that got algae on it and one head of an acan lord that got too close to another coral.

We have a hydor pico powerhead plus the AQ 20 that gives much surface movement just get a bunch of bubble scum around the edges of the water line.

So just got in the media basket and will have it up and running in a few days. Prob add some purigen to the bag of sea gel to help keep the water pristine.

Now just to get a small ball of chaeto and ill be set.
