I am confused about what I should do with my lighting. Will a 250watt DE bulb penetrate to the bottom so I can keep some of my clams on the sand? Has anyone had long term success with clams on the sandbed of a tank deeper than 26" and what bulbs are you using?
Thanx
We have a custom tank at work that is about 33 inches deep, and we have maximas at the bottom. However we have it lit with 2 400w 14k SE bulbs supplemented with 4 96w PC Actinics. The oldest clam has been in there for about 8 years and the newest had been in there for about 1 year. Good Luck
yeah that should be fine. One of my tanks is a 36" tall 48x48 tank lit by 4 250 DE's. gigas and deresa on sand are fine. for maximas and croceas you would probably be better off putting them on the rocks. I have two crocea in there about half way down and they are doing great.
It should be enough, depending on what the depth of the sandbed is....I would start them out on the sandbed and watch them....but if your using 20k's then I would raise them higher for sure...
